No. 3 Middletown South 6, Freehold Twp. 0
Junior Ben Schild opened his season with a no-hitter and 16 strikeouts to lead the defending Group IV champion Eagles to a win over the Eagles on opening day.

Junior Danny Talarico and senior Shawn McNiff each delivered big extra-base hits in a three-run first inning and senior Tyler Villa kept the Colts quiet in an opening-day win for the Mustangs.
Seniors Josh Mack and Julian Buchmann each worked walks to open the game and Talarico plated both with his RBI triple. McNiff then followed with an RBI double to get Marlboro out to an early 3-0.
Villa put up zeroes through the first five innings before CBA broke up his shutout in the sixth, with junior Harrison Campi smacking a triple and scoring on a groundout by junior Zaine Toneske.
Senior Jake Kalfayan closed out the game by pitching the seventh inning, but not without some noise from CBA. Senior Jack Frankovic singled home senior Alexey Stoudt to cut the deficit to 3-2, but Kalfayan bounced back to retire Campi on a groundout to end the game.

Toms River East 3, Brick 2
Senior Dante Carr hit a bizarre, inside-the-park home run in the top of the fourth inning that proved to be the difference in a Raiders opening-day win over the Green Dragons.
Carr scalded a line drive to the right-centerfield gap and it skipped all the way to the fence, allowing junior Ryan Ushock to score. Brick centerfielder R.J. Reinhold slid near the fence to retrieve the ball and, according to Brick coach Jason Groschel, his leg got stuck under the temporary fence as he held onto the ball.
Reinhold lobbied for the umpires to rule the ball dead, but the play stayed live and Carr motored around the bases for a two-run, inside-the-park homer that put Toms River East on top, 3-0.
