Shore Conference Tournament
Round of 16
(7) Jackson Memorial 9, (10) Ranney 2
Juniors Charlie Meglio and Aidan O'Donnell hit solo homers in back-to-back innings to start the game and a trio of Jackson Memorial hitters strung RBI singles together in the fourth to give ace Zach Crotchfelt plenty of cushion in a Jaguars win over the Panthers in the round of 16.
Meglio's sixth home run of the season gave Jackson Memorial a 1-0 lead and O'Donnell extended the lead to 2-0 in the second with his solo shot to left.
Crotchfelt helped his cause with an RBI single in the fourth to extend the lead to 3-0. Junior Mike Arent, who homered in three straight games prior to Wednesday, drove in the fourth Jackson Memorial run with an RBI single and junior Matt Koblos knocked in two with a two-run single to cap the fourth-inning scoring.
Jackson Memorial will host Class A South rival Central Regional in Friday's SCT quarterfinal round.

Joe Stanzione crushed two home runs to run his total for this season to 12 and junior Ben Schild had a big day on the mound and at the plate to lead the Eagles to the Monmouth County Tournament championship for the first time since 2011.
Schild gave himself a 1-0 lead with an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning and Stanzione slammed the first of his two solo bombs over the left-centerfield wall to make it 3-0 in the bottom of the third. Junior Will Christopher had given Middletown South a 2-0 lead with an RBI double in the second inning.
Middletown South went on to add two more runs on the third on a groundout by senior Rob Cangelosi and an RBI single by senior Joe Bartos. When Stanzione stepped back into the box in the bottom of the fourth, he launched his second solo blast of the game to extend the Eagles lead to 6-1.
Schild did not allow a hit through the first three innings before the Crimson Knights got to him in the fourth. Sophomore catcher Jake Howlett smoked a double to the fence in the left and courtesy runner Jake Layton scored on an outfield error on a single by junior Colin MacDermant.
Senior Evan Wood recorded the final out of the top of the sixth inning after Schild exceeded the single-game pitch limit with his 111th pitch and ended the game in the bottom of the sixth with a line drive to the right-center gap that plated the final two runs, activated the 10-run rule. Cangelosi also had an RBI single in the sixth and senior Steve Boguszewski ripped an RBI triple in the game-ending rally.
