Ocean County Tournament
Quarterfinals
(1) Jackson Memorial 8, (8) Southern 0
Senior left-hander Zach Crotchfelt hit two RBI singles to help his own cause and turned in another dominant outing on the mound to pitch the Jaguars past the Rams and into the OCT semifinals on Monday.
Senior J.R. Osmond broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the second with an RBI single and Crotchfelt followed with the first of his two RBI hits.
Junior shortstop Brian Harper broke up a potential no-hit bid by Crotchfelt by battling back from a 0-2 count to get to 3-2 and flipping a single into right field. Southern got runners to second and third with two out in the inning, but Crotchfelt pitched his way out of trouble with a strikeout.
Junior Mike Arent led off the bottom of the fourth with a solo home run and Osmond tacked on a two-run single to stretch the lead to 5-0.
Southern again put runners on second and third in the fifth, this time with one out, but Crotchfelt wiggled out with a strikeout and a flyout to centerfield.
Junior Matt Koblos single home a run in the Jackson Memorial fifth and Crotchfelt and junior catcher Aidan O'Donnell capped the scoring in the sixth with back-to-back RBI singles.
Senior Sage Goeke issued a one-out walk in the seventh before striking out the last two batters to close out the Jaguars win.
