Class A North

No. 3 Middletown South 11, No. 2 Howell 10

Senior Evan Wood started a two-out rally in the top of the eighth with a single through the middle, scored the tiebreaking run on an RBI single by senior Joe Stanzione and closed out a wild Eagles win over the Rebels with a one-two-three eighth inning on the mound.

Wood also hit one of four Middletown South home runs -- a two-run shot in the top of the sixth that extended Middletown South's lead to 10-6. Senior Joe Stanzione and junior Will Christopher hit back-to-back home runs in the top of the fifth to turn a 5-5 game into an 8-5 Middletown South lead.

Stanzione also hit a two-run homer in the top of the third to cut Howell's lead to 5-4 after the Rebels jumped out to a 5-0 lead with five runs in the bottom of the first. Stanzione now leads the Shore Conference with seven home runs.

Howell mounted a stunning four-run rally against Middletown South ace Ben Schild to tie the game, 10-10, in the bottom of the seventh. It started with a single by junior Russell Halvorsen to lead it off, followed by back-to-back doubles by seniors Devon Smith and Thomas Strauch, the latter of which plated two runs to cut the Middletown South lead to 10-8.

Senior Nick Todisco beat out an infield single with one out to put runners on the corners and Schild responded with a strikeout. Schild, however, issued back-to-back walks to force in Howell's ninth run and the Rebels tied the game on a catcher's interference call with two out. Schild then got Halvorsen to fly out to right field to extend the game to extra innings and give Middletown South a chance to win the game.

Manalapan 2, No. 9 Marlboro 0

Senior Dylan Reiner scored what proved to be the winning run in the first inning and made a sparking defensive play in the fifth to lend just enough support for right-handers Dylan Shaffer and Tyler Kane in a Braves shutout win over the Mustangs, ending Marlboro's seven-game winning streak.

Reiner walked and scored on a wild pitch in the bottom of the first, with a second Manalapan run scoring in the inning on an RBI groundout by senior Max Graime.

Shaffer completed five innings of work to earn the win and escaped trouble in the top of the fifth with the shutout intact thanks to Reiner. With runners on first and second and one out, junior Danny Talarico lifted a deep fly ball to the left-center gap and Reiner, playing leftfield, ran it down for an over-the-shoulder catch. Marlboro's baserunners judged to ball to be out of the reach of the outfielders and made a bid to score, so Reiner threw the ball to second to complete an inning-ending double-play.

Senior Tyler Kane struck out five in a two-out save and struck out the side in order in the seventh to close it out.

Monmouth 2, Ocean 1

Junior Joey Esposito ripped a game-winning RBI double down the left-field line to score senior Christian Zito from first with two out in the bottom of the seventh and the Falcons pulled out a walk-off thriller over the Spartans to give coach Paul Crivello his 100th career win.

Zito drew a two-out walk and took off for second on the pitch that Esposito roped down the line.

Monmouth pulled even in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by sophomore Evan Booth that scored pinch-runner Will Theobald, who stole second base before scoring on the single.

Junior Jake Smith drove in Ocean's lone run with an RBI double down the left-field line in the top of the third.

Central 7, Brick Memorial 0

Senior Cam Leiter struck out a career-high 16 and the Golden Eagles backed their ace with three home runs in a win over the Mustangs that keeps Central in the running for the Class A South championship.

Central's lineup wasted little time grabbing a lead for Leiter, with junior Dom Masino and sophomore Cristian Soto stroking back-to-back doubles to start the bottom of the first. Soto later belted the first of two home runs by Central in the bottom of the fifth, with Soto hitting a two-run shot to make the score 4-0 and junior Chase Pierce later connecting on a three-run shot that capped the scoring.

Senior Shane Sajewicz drilled the first of the three Central longballs with a solo shot in the bottom of the fourth.

Class B North

Neptune 3, Colts Neck 3

The Scarlet Fliers and Cougars traded runs in the ninth inning and Colts Neck left nine runners on base in the final four innings, as darkness forced the two teams to settle for a tie.

Junior Quincy Esannason broke a 2-2 tie with a two-out RBI double in the top of the ninth, but Colts Neck responded with a rally that culminated with sophomore Chris Scully plating the tying run with an infield single with one out.

Sophomore Casey Gardiner and junior Ryan Tan got the rally going with back-to-back one-out singles, with Gardiner racing to third on Tan's hit to put him in position to score on Scully's single.

Neptune senior right-hander Dan Moran -- who relieved senior starter Ryan Cole -- stranded the two Colts Neck runners in the ninth with a strikeout and a groundout, then stranded the bases loaded in both the 10th and 11th innings. Colts Neck loaded the bases with one out in the 11th, but Cole fielded a ground ball and threw to home for the force out and second out of the inning, followed by an inning-ending fly out.

Senior Tyler Persico delivered Neptune's first two runs, first on an RBI double in the third, then with a go-ahead RBI single in the top of the fifth. Colts Neck tied the game at 1-1 on an RBI single by sophomore Tosh Mancini in the bottom of the third and again at 2-2 on a throwing error on a steal of third by senior Brad Salamone.
