Class A South

Brick Memorial 1, Toms River North 0

Junior Declan Sheehan created a run with his legs in the top of the fourth inning and the Mustangs made it hold up in a shutout win over the Mariners, earning a regular-season split after a 12-2 win by Toms River North in Friday's season-opener.

Sheehan drew a two-out walk on a 3-2 count in the top of the fourth and stole second to get into scoring position. An errant throw on a ground ball by Mustangs senior Jack Flood allowed Sheehan to race home with the first and only run of the game.

Toms River North threatened in the bottom of the seventh by advancing runners to second and third with two out. Junior Brady Leach replaced senior starter Matt Mancini and struck out the lone batter he faced on a 3-2 pitch.

Toms River North had a window to tie the game when one of Mancini's pitches got to the backstop, but the runner did not make an attempt to score from third.

Junior Ryan Schmidt got Toms River South on the board with a two-run single in the bottom of the fourth. Junior Chris Clark also tripled in the loss.

Southern 6, No. 4 Jackson Memorial 4

Junior Mike Nasti hit a solo home run in the fourth, a game-tying two-run single in the sixth and worked a bases-loaded walk in the seventh to lead the Rams to a come-from-behind, road upset of the Jaguars.

Nasti sparked the comeback with his fourth-inning blast that cut the deficit to 3-2. In the sixth, he delivered a single that scored both senior Stephen Stafford and senior Curtis Olender with one out, tying the game at 4-4.

Southern took the lead in the top of the seventh when Dom Miranda and Stafford drew back-to-back walks to start the inning and Miranda scored on a wild pitch. Nasti later drew a bases-loaded walk to cap the scoring --  the eighth walk of the game issued by Jackson Memorial pitching and the sixth of the last two innings.

After senior Mike Nascimento navigated through six innings, junior Stephen Miller came on to record the final three outs. Senior Chris Cartnick worked a one-out walk and junior Aidan O'Donnell kept Jackson Memorial alive with a two-out single to bring the winning run to the plate, but Miller dug in and struck out the final batter of the game.

Senior J.R. Osmond highlighted a three-run bottom-of-the-first by Jackson Memorial with an RBI double, with senior Zach Crotchfelt adding a sacrifice fly. After Nasti's homer cut the Jackson Memorial lead to 3-2, Osmond led off the bottom of the fifth with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly by O'Donnell.

Class B South

Jackson Liberty 3, Manchester 2

Junior left-hander Ethan Bloomfield and freshman Michael Kisseberth combined on a one-hitter and the Lions completed a sweep of the defending South Jersey Group II champion Hawks, who were without senior Mike Damato.

Senior Garrett Drew singled and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning. Drew advanced to second on a passed ball and scored on a ground out by Kisseberth.

Drew also knocked in a go-ahead run in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single to right and Kisseberth scored on a wild pitch to give Jackson Liberty its first run in the bottom of the first.

Junior A.J. Ramirez singled with one out in the second for Manchester's lone hit and stole second base, but Bloomfield struck out the next two hitters to strike out the side around his lone hit allowed of the game.

Senior Logan Duffy drew three walks and scored both Manchester runs -- the first on a passed ball in the top of the first and the second on a sacrifice fly by classmate Blake Warren to tie the score at 2-2 in the top of the third. Duffy's third walk set Manchester up with runners on first and second with two out in the top of the seventh, but Kisseberth induced a game-ending popout.
