Class A North

No. 4 CBA 15, Long Branch 0 (5 Innings)

Brennan O'Keefe pitched a five-inning one-hitter with 10 strikeouts and the Colts (9-4, 6-3) cruised to a win over the Green Wave (0-13, 0-11).

Jack Mocik (3-for-3, double, two RBI), George Kruse (2-for-2, a double, three runs), Liam Sweeney (2-for-2, two runs) and Chris Grann (2-for-2, two RBI) each had perfect days at the plate, while Nick Harnisch was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBI and Matt DiFeo finished 2-for-4 with three runs and an RBI for CBA.

No. 10 Freehold Twp. 9, Middletown North 3

Sophomore Ryan Costello allowed one run over six innings of work and the Patriots (7-6, 4-6) put away the Lions (5-7, 4-7) to snap a five-game losing streak.

No. 5 Howell 18, No. 3 Middletown South 13

The Rebels and Eagles combined for 31 runs, 25 hits, five home runs and two eight-run innings and when the dust settled, Howell prevailed with a win that put the Rebels (11-2, 10-1) on the doorstep of clinching the outright Class A North championship.

Junior Russell Halvorsen and seniors Nick Gallo and Nick Gomes each went 2-for-4 with a homer and drove in multiple runs for Howell, which built up a 17-4 lead heading to the bottom of the fifth inning. Halvorsen also doubled and scored five runs to go with three RBI, while Gallo and Gomes each drove in two and scored two.

Senior Devon Smith was 3-for-6 with a double and two RBI, while senior Dan Furlong was 1-for-4 with two RBI and sophomore Joe Zito finished 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored for Howell.

Three outs from being defeated via the 10-run rule, Middletown South began chipping away. Sophomore Louis D'Alessio got one back with an RBI double and junior Matt Sliva followed with a two-run double that made it 17-8, extending the game for another inning.

Senior Rob Cangelosi had the big swing in the bottom of the fifth, launching a home run with two runners on base. What should have been a three-run home run to cut Howell's lead to 17-13 with one out became a two-run home run when Howell appealed that one of the Eagles baserunners failed to touch home plate and the appeal was upheld.

Middletown South settled for an eight-run fifth and after keeping Howell off the board in the top of the sixth, the Eagles mounted a two-out rally in the sixth that culminated with an RBI single by senior Steve Boguszewski to trim the Rebels lead to 17-13.

Furlong added an RBI single for Howell in the top of the seventh and Gomes came on to close out the win on the mound.

Sliva finished 4-for-4 with three runs and two RBI while senior Evan Wood and Cangelosi each went 2-for-4 with three runs scored. One of Wood's hits was a solo home run.

D'Alessio and junior Will Christopher each finished 1-for-4 with a double for Middletown South, with Christopher driving in two.

Senior Alex D'Ambrosio hit a clutch, two-out, two-run single through the middle in the bottom of the fifth and junior Mike Kansky added a two-run double in the sixth to put a win over the Braves away from the Mustangs and starter Tyler Villa.

D'Ambrosio's single in the fifth gave Marlboro a 4-1 lead after the Mustangs jumped in front earlier in the inning when Manalapan starter Tyler Kane hit senior Julian Buchman with the bases loaded. Kansky's two-run double extended the Marlboro lead to 7-1 and junior Danny Talarico added an RBI single later in the inning to cap the scoring.
