Class A North

No. 9 CBA 36, Howell 34

Senior C.J. Lautato scored off an inbounds play in the final five seconds and the Colts (2-0, 2-0) pulled out a road win over the Rebels (0-2, 0-2). Sophomore Stephen Braunstein led CBA with nine points.

Senior Jason Jones scored 11 points to lead Howell, which played without junior Nasiem Brantley (25 points in opener vs. Colts Neck) due to personal reasons.

Freehold Boro 61, Manalapan 46

Junior Ashante Worthy scored a team-high 17 points and the Colonials (1-1, 1-1) coasted past the Braves (0-2, 0-2) for their first win of the season. Sophomore Quincy Davis added 10 points and six rebounds while senior Chris Cassandra contributed nine points, three assists and four steals.

Senior Markee Gill grabbed 10 boards to go with five points and senior Jashawn Butts swiped six steals on top of his six points.

Junior Matan Zucker led Manalapan with a game-high 24 points.

No. 6 Freehold Twp. 66, Neptune 42

Senior Ryan Zyskowski scored a game-high 17 points and senior Steve Staklinski added 13 points and eight rebounds as the Patriots (3-0, 2-0) thumped the Scarlet Fliers (0-2, 0-2) to remain perfect to open the season.

Senior Bobby Weise also added 10 points and five assists for Freehold Township, while junior teammate Jazeem Foster chipped in nine points. Sophomore Dwaine Jones led Neptune with 11 points.

No. 7 Marlboro 59, Colts Neck 54

Sophomore Dylan Kaufman scored a game-high 20 points and the Mustangs (3-0, 2-0) scored another big A North road win by beating the Cougars (1-1, 1-1).

Junior Justin Marcus added 15 points and senior Dan Weiss chipped in 13 for Marlboro, which played without starters P.J. Ringel (hand) and Emir Anda (knee). Senior Ryan LaRocca also knocked down three three-pointers for nine points.

Junior Brendan Clarke matched Kaufman with 20 points to lead Colts Neck, while junior Danny Gaines dropped 18 in the loss.

 

Class A Central

Holmdel 55, Raritan 49

Senior Nick Harris scored 23 points and junior Tim Zhou added 13 to lead the Hornets (2-0, 2-0) past the Rockets (0-2, 0-2) for their second straight win to open the season.

Sophomore Tim Hayes led Raritan with 16 points, while senior Mark LaVilla had 13 and senior Justin Black added 10.

Rumson-Fair Haven 80, Matawan 47

Junior Teddy Sourlis led four Rumson players in double-figures with 16 points and the Bulldogs (1-0, 1-0) blasted the Huskies (0-2, 0-2) for a win to open their season. Junior Jack Solano added 13 points, freshman Phillip Wheeler netted 11 and senior Tyler Pierson poured in 10 for Rumson, which led 48-14 by halftime.

Red Bank 65, St. John Vianney 55

Sophomore Liam Joyce rained in a career-high 23 points and the Bucs (2-0, 2-0) beat the Lancers (1-1, 1-1) for their second straight win to open the season. Senior Nasir Williams also poured in 18 points and junior Devin Cooper scored 15, giving the trio 55 of Red Bank's 65 points.

Rocco Giorlando led St. John Vianney with 12 points.

 

Class A South

No. 3 Toms River North 47, Southern 37

Senior Jaden Rhoden scored 16 points to lead the Mariners (2-0, 1-0) to a win over the Rams (1-2, 0-1) in the A South opener for both teams. Junior Travis Holland added 11 points and senior Mike Nyisztor chipped in nine points in the win.

Junior Thomas Foster led Southern with 15 points and eight rebounds.

 

Class B North

Ocean 58, Long Branch 57

Senior Darius Brown buried the game-winning three-pointer from the left wing with 3.6 seconds left and the Spartans (1-1, 1-1) edged the Green Wave (0-2, 0-2) in a Class B North thriller.

Brown led Ocean with 19 points and freshman Jack Miller added 16 for Ocean, which squandered a 21-point second-half lead before Brown's heroics. Junior Andrew Seager also scored 11 points for Ocean.

Junior Tyree Morris led Long Branch with a game-high 21 points and classmate T.J. Fosque added 14. The Green Wave trailed 50-34 heading into the fourth before reeling off 23-5 stretch to take a 57-55 lead on a pair of free throws by junior Kevin Porch with 30 seconds left.

No. 4 Middletown North 78, Monmouth 54

Sophomore Rob Higgins pumped in 28 points and senior Marc Cerbo threw in 25 as the Lions (1-1, 1-1) shot down the Falcons (0-3, 0-2) for their first win of the season.

Senior Jalen Gates led Monmouth with 17 points.

No. 5 Manasquan 76, Red Bank Catholic 42

One game after scoring a career-high 37 points in only three quarters, senior Devin Jensen one-upped himself with 38 points in a little more than four as the Warriors (3-0, 2-0) routed the Caseys (2-1, 1-1) to remain unbeaten in the early going.

Senior Seamus Hogan added 12 points and senior Brian Paturzo had seven points and 10 rebounds in the win.

Freshman Charlie Gordinier led RBC with nine points and senior Mike Conley added 8.

Wall 50, Middletown South 47

Junior Steve Geis scored 11 of his game-high 14 points in the fourth quarter to help the Crimson Knights (3-0, 2-0) overcome an eight-point deficit after three and beat the Eagles (1-2, 1-1). Senior Gene Scott netted 11 points and freshman Quinn Calabrese contributed 10 in the win.

Junior Dave Gervase scored 13 points to lead Middletown South, which took a 43-35 lead into the fourth quarter. Junior Ryan Purcell added 11 points and senior Scott Kirschner chipped in nine.

 

Class B Central

No. 2 Ranney 86, Keansburg 41

Sophomore Ahmadu Sarnor scored 24 points and sophomore Bryan Antoine added 22 as the Panthers (2-0, 2-0) handled the Titans (1-2, 1-2). Sarnor also had eight assists and six steals, while Antoine pitched in nine rebounds, six assists and four steals.

All five Ranney sophomore starters reached double-figure scoring, with Chris Autino pouring in 11 and Alex Klatsky and Scottie Lewis each pitching in 10.

Junior Danny Vital led Keansburg with 17 points and junior Paul Eckleberry added nine points and seven rebounds in the loss.

 

Class B South

Point Boro 53, Lacey 36

Junior Connor Strickland scored 15 points and junior Connor Costigan added 14 to lead the Panthers (3-0, 2-0) to their third straight win to open the season by beating the Lions (0-3, 0-2).

 

Non-Division

Brick 51, Pinelands 46

Senior Noah Buono scored 16 points and sophomore Shane Williams added 15 to lead the Green Dragons (2-1) to a win over the Wildcats (0-4) on the road. Senior Brandon Williams also scored 10 points and senior Anthony DeStefano chipped in nine.

Senior Chris Burke led Pinelands with 15 points and sophomore Andrew Schulz added 14 in the loss.
