Players of the Week were chosen based on results from Monday, Sept. 19 through Sunday, Sept. 25

NRS Boys Soccer Player of the Week

Anthony Arena, Holmdel

After a gut-wrenching loss in the NJSIAA Group II final last year, Holmdel entered the season with a serious question mark when junior and 2015 leading scorer Justin McStay opted to play academy soccer instead of high school. Arena has been the answer to that question and this last week showed it. In three Holmdel wins this past week, Arena scored five goals and assisted another to catapult the Hornets into the A Central race.

The week started with Arena assisting an equalizer and scoring an insurance goal in a 3-1 win over Ranney. The sophomore followed up that game by scoring two goals in a 4-1 thrashing of Rumson-Fair Haven. He capped the week with two more goals against St. John Vianney, including the golden goal in the 2-1 overtime win for Holmdel.

A Central Honorable Mention: Jacob Labinger, Matawan; John Caracappa, St. John Vianney; Tom Savin, Raritan; Alec Fortune, Raritan

Class A North Player of the Week

Tom Judge, CBA

Over the past calendar year, Judge has proven to be one of the most valuable players in the Shore Conference with his ability to score goals from an outside back position. He was at it again this past week, scoring four goals in four Colts wins, including a winning goal in the 79th minute against Freehold Township and two goals in a 5-2 win over Chaminade, N.Y. Sunday at the Delbarton Invitational.

A North Honorable Mention: Jack Gill, CBA; Rocky Garretson, Manalapan; Andy Rizo, Freehold Boro; Steven Karp, Marlboro

Class A South Player of the Week

Ben Brown, Toms River South

Like Judge, Brown influences the game in many ways while playing on the back line and the Indians senior helped deliver a pair of key goals this week. He assisted a go-ahead goal by Chris Kluxen against Brick Memorial on Tuesday and scored the lone goal in a 1-0 win over Toms River North on Thursday, which gave Toms River South sole possession of first place in Class A South.

A South Honorable Mention: Griffin Bacon, Central; Ben Patti, Jackson Memorial; Mike Schoener, Jackson Memorial; Ethan Leming, Southern

Class B North Player of the Week

Ryan Gordon, Wall

After a slow start to the season for the No. 6 team in the Shore Sports Network Preseason Top 10, Wall turned things around this past week by surviving a scoreless tie against Manasquan, handling Red Bank Catholic and handing Ocean its first loss of the year. Six different players accounted for the eight Crimson Knights goals in the two wins and Gordon was one of the two players, along with Dakota Dobrovich-Fago, to score twice. Gordon also delivered the golden goal in the overtime win over Ocean.

B North Honorable Mention: Venancio Fernandes, Long Branch; Joel Burgos, Monmouth; Ryan Binn, Middletown North; Chris Black, Manasquan

Class B Central Player of the Week

Ethan Kelley, Henry Hudson

The Admirals have put a winless 2015 season behind them by starting 2016 with a respectable 4-4 mark. Kelley has been at the heart of the Henry Hudson revival, which he showed this past week by recording a hat trick – including a golden goal – in a 4-3 overtime win over Keyport and adding a goal in a 2-1 win over Mater Dei two days later.

B Central Honorable Mention: Fenelson Etienne, Asbury Park; Brendan Hueth, St. Rose; Mike Ciorlian, Point Beach; Gadiel Escobar, Keyport

Class B South Player of the Week

Mason Remondelli, Point Boro

Few teams in the Shore Conference operate on the consistent schedule that Point Boro does: lose a game or two early, then reel off a bunch of wins in a row to win a B South title. The Panthers picked up steam this week with wins over Donovan Catholic, Manchester and St. Rose and Remondelli was in the middle of all three. He scored a goal and an assist against Donovan, assisted two against Manchester and scored the winner against St. Rose.

B South Honorable Mention: Nathanael Wharlton, Lakewood; Reilly Hunt, Lacey; Matt O’Connell, Pinelands; Alex Iorio, Jackson Liberty
