Manalapan 43, Middletown North 42

Junior John Lugo scored 14 points and sophomore Matan Zucker poured in 12 as the Braves (4-3, 2-2) edged the Lions (5-3, 2-2). Freshman Rob Higgins led Middletown North with a game-high 19 points, while junior John Tomassetti chipped in 10 in the loss.

No. 10 Freehold Twp. 67, Howell 61

Senior Nick Facendo scored 19 points, handed out 10 assists and went 6-for-6 from the free-throw line late in the fourth quarter to lead the Patriots (5-4, 2-2) to a win over the Rebels (4-5, 2-2).

Senior John Carroll pitched in 10 points and 21 rebounds for Freehold Township, while junior Steve Staklinski and junior Ryan Zyskowski each added 12, with Staklinski going 7-for-8 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter.

Senior Steve Palumbo scored 14 points and senior Matt Morton and sophomore Alex Morton each added 13 for Howell, which scored 30 fourth-quarter points to push Freehold Township.

Freehold Boro 68, Middletown South 65 (3 OT)

Sophomore Ashante Worthy scored a team-high 16 points to go with five rebounds and the Colonials (4-4, 2-2) survived a second-half surge from the Eagles (1-7, 0-4) to send the game to overtime by clawing for a triple-overtime win.

Junior Chris Cassandra added 13 points and senior Chris Hannigan added 12 points and 12 rebounds and also took two key charges during the third overtime. Junior Markee Gill also scored 12 points in the win.

Senior Tom Marron scored a game-high 18 points to lead Middletown South, which rallied from a 13-point halftime deficit by outscoring Freehold Boro 37-24 in the second half. Junior Kevin Higgins added 13 points and senior Andrew Roesch chipped in 12 in the loss.

No. 1 CBA 69, Marlboro 65 (OT)

Senior Pat Andree scored 37 points, his fourth straight game with more than 30 points, and the Colts (7-1, 4-0) survived an overtime challenge from the Mustangs (3-4, 2-2) for their sixth straight win.

Andree shot 19-for-23 from the free throw line and carried the CBA scoring effort, which did not include another double-digit scorer. Nick Mugavero scored nine points off the bench.

Marlboro sent the game to overtime after senior Matt Dean - who began last season at CBA - converted a layup with one second left in regulation. Junior P.J. Ringel led Marlboro with 16 points, while Dean and senior Mike Jastrzebski each scored 13. Junior Daniel Weiss added 12 points in the loss.

 

Class A Central

Rumson-Fair Haven 65, Holmdel 58

Senior Brendan Barry scored a game-high 21 points and dished out five assists to help the Bulldogs (4-3, 2-2) get past the Hornets (2-4, 1-3).

Senior Colin McDevitt added 13 points with three three-pointers and senior Mickey Schluter chipped in 10 in the win.

Sophomore Kyle Cardaci led Holmdel with 21 points to headline a quartet of Hornets in double-figures. Junior Nick Harris added 12 points and seniors Kevin Ziznewski and Jeff Zhou scored 10 points each in defeat.

Shore 42, Monmouth 32

Freshman Kyle Koob scored 15 points and the Blue Devils (2-6, 1-2) beat the Falcons (0-7, 0-4) for the second time this season. the two teams first met in the Albert E. Martin Buc Classic consolation bracket.

Junior Tyler Hawkins led Monmouth with a game-high 16 points.

No. 3 Manasquan 61, St. John Vianney 58

Senior Ryan Jensen stole an inbounds pass with 8.3 seconds left and fed the ball ahead to senior Shane Flanagan for a layup to seal a hard-fought win for the Warriors (8-0, 3-0) over the Lancers (5-3, 2-1).

Senior Jack Sheehan scored 23 points to go along with six rebounds and five assists, while Jensen contributed 16 points, 12 rebounds, five assists and three blocks to lead Manasquan.

Senior Zach Howarth led St. John Vianney with 20 points while senior Grant Goode added 13 in the loss.

 

Class B North

No. 9 Colts Neck 46, Matawan 41

Senior Lloyd Daniels scored a team-high 18 points and senior Kyle Gordon added 11 as the Cougars (5-1, 3-1) outlasted the Huskies (4-3, 2-2) for their fifth straight win.

Senior Mergim Gjyriqi scored a game-high 19 points to lead Matawan while sophomore Michael Dunne pitched in nine in defeat.

Ocean 48, Red Bank 39

Senior Ru'Quan Dean scored 13 points along with six rebounds and five assists and the Spartans (5-3, 2-2) topped the Bucs (4-4, 2-3) for their fifth straight win following a 0-3 start.

Senior Scott Bradley added 12 points and eight rebounds for Ocean, while senior teammate Yianni Kavarakas added eight points and 12 rebounds.

Junior Connor McCloone led Red Bank with a game-high 14 points.

No. 8 Long Branch 55, Wall 47

Senior Anthony Velazquez scored a game-high 22 points to help carry the Green Wave (5-2, 4-0) past the Crimson Knights (2-5, 1-3) to remain unbeaten in Class B North play during the young season. Freshman Marc Dennis added nine points in the win.

Junior R.J. Janeczek led Wall with 13 points and junior Mike Andrejco threw in 11 in the loss.

 

Class B South

Manchester 78, Pinelands 61

Junior L.J. Robinson scored 19 points and senior Shavar Reynolds added 18 points and 14 assists to lead the Hawks (6-1, 4-0) to a win over the Wildcats (1-6, 1-3).

Senior Israel Almestica chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds and Jordan Torney added 15 points and five assists in the win.

Senior Dave Lunn led Pinelands with a game-high 26 points.

 

Non-Conference

Barnegat 53, New Egypt 38

Senior Nick Camarato scored a game-high 24 points, including 19 in the third quarter and a half-court shot to cap the first half, and the Bengals (3-5) beat the Warriors (2-4) for the second time this season.

No. 6 Ranney 88, Foundation Academy 40

Freshmen Chris Autino and Bryan Antoine combined for 35 points and the Panthers (8-0) coasted to their eighth straight win in the first round of the Panther Classic.

Autino scored a game-high 18 points while Antoine poured in 17. Sophomore Kyle Smith added 15 points and freshman Scottie Lewis netted 11 for Ranney. Senior Sam Metzger also chipped in four points, eight rebounds, eight assists and five steals in the win.
