The COVID-19 pandemic is finally in retreat, but some residual effects are still having an effect on our lives. Unfortunately, that includes the cancelation of the 2021 Shore Sports Network/Jersey Mike’s All-Shore Gridiron Classic.

Under the current COVID guidelines the game could certainly take place during its usually mid-July timeframe with fans in the stands, but the reality of the situation is that the logistics of the game must be planned more than half a year in advance. During the planning stage, there was just too much uncertainty surrounding any potential restrictions, especially on crowd capacity and distancing measures.

“Unfortunately, for the second year in a row we have to cancel the All-Shore Gridiron Classic,” said Manalapan head coach/Gridiron Classic Game Chairman Dom Lepore. “We made the decision along with our media partner SSN that there were way too many question marks playing the game. It's an event that requires at least six months of preparation. We take a lot of pride in it being an enjoyable experience for the players, coaches and fans.”

While there won’t be a game this year, there will be plenty of recognition for the players and coaches.

To honor the athletes who were selected for the game, game organizers will be hosting the players and coaches on July 14 at Wall High School where the players will be presented with their game jerseys and treated to a food spread courtesy of Jersey Mike’s.

LOOK: Here are the 50 best beach towns in America

Every beach town has its share of pluses and minuses, which got us thinking about what makes a beach town the best one to live in. To find out, Stacker consulted data from WalletHub, released June 17, 2020, that compares U.S. beach towns. Ratings are based on six categories: affordability, weather, safety, economy, education and health, and quality of life. The cities ranged in population from 10,000 to 150,000, but they had to have at least one local beach listed on TripAdvisor. Read the full methodology here. From those rankings, we selected the top 50. Readers who live in California and Florida will be unsurprised to learn that many of towns featured here are in one of those two states.

Keep reading to see if your favorite beach town made the cut.
