Nondivisional

Ocean 34, Point Boro 33

Junior Viet Le won by fall in 12 seconds at 195 pounds, giving the Spartans (2-0) a seven-point lead with one bout remaining and clinching a narrow win over the Panthers (1-1). Wrestling without the services of two-time state medalist Zach Hertling, Ocean won eight of 14 bouts and picked up bonus points on pins by Le, junior Davie Tieto at 113 pounds and sophomore Esteban Bernard at 160, and a major decision by freshman Jake Benner at 120 pounds.

Despite winning less than half the bouts, Point Boro nearly pulled out the win thanks to pins by Dom Infante (Hwt), Ben Sabo (106), Dan Nobbs (132) and Gene Franceschini (182).

Nonconference

No. 1 Howell 30, Parsippany 25

The Rebels (3-0) won four straight bouts from 106 through 126 pounds, including a pin by junior Nick Ciaccia, to hold off the Red Hawks and remain undefeated. After falling behind 13-3 after five bouts, senior Sean Silverstein won by fall at 220 pounds to bring the Rebels within four, and consecutive wins by Kyle Slendorn, Mikey Sisolak and Peter Dee from 106 to 120 pounds put Howell up 18-16. Ciaccia's pin in 1:13 at 126 pound extended the lead to 24-16, and a forfeit to Kris Lindemann at 138 pounds put the match out of reach for Parsippany.

Senor Matt Wilhelm won the 160-pound title in dominant fashion, scoring a 15-0 technical fall in the championship bout, to lead a cast of seven top-three finishers that helped the Rams defend their team title at Governor Mifflin High School in Shillington, Pa.

Finishing second were senior Chris Crane at 120, junior Gianni Bennet at 126, junior Pat Mooney at 145 and junior Connor Scully at 195. Senior James Knoeller was third at 132 pounds and senior Pat Ferraro placed third at 220 pounds.
