Beast of the East

At the Bob Carpenter Center, University of Delaware

Ocean junior Zach Hertling dominated in the first day of the prestigious Beast of the East Tournament. Hertling, a two-time state medalist and Region VI champion in 2012, won by fall in the first period in his first two matches, then won by technical fall to reach Sunday morning's quarterfinal round. In the quarterfinals, Hertling fell to No. 7 seed Justus Weaver, 10-3. He was then eliminated from medal contention with a 4-1 loss to No. 6 seed Toby Hague from McDonogh Prep. Ocean finished 41st in the 106-team field.

Neptune Classic

Manalapan led all Shore Conference teams with a fifth-place team finish, four finalists and three champions in the 16-team field Saturday at Neptune High School. Jake Kaminsky won the 152-pound title with a 22-7 technical fall over Jackson Liberty's Dominick Regina and Ben Aquilina took the 220-pound title with a 6-3 decision over Bound Brook's Ronald Picado. Anthony Benedetti won the 182-pound title via disqualification, while Joe Santomarco finished second at 138 pounds.

Jackson Liberty junior Mike Russo, the state fourth-place finisher at 106 pounds last season, won the 120-pound title with an 8-1 decision over Toms River East's Yoseph Borai.

Placing second were St. John Vianney's Terrance Davis at 152 pounds, Jackson Liberty's T.J. Liquori at 160 and Central's Atanacio Carrillo at heavyweight.

CBA Colt Classic

High Point won the team title with with 207 points over second place Roselle Park (173). No. 10 Wall led all Shore Conference teams with a third-place finish (135.5 points) while No. 6 Brick was fourth with 133 and host No. 9 CBA was fifth with 100 points.

Denzel Tover (113) and Brett Donner (160) won titles for Wall and Brick had one champion with Dean Sherry taking the 170-pound title. CBA had a conference-high three champions with Sebastian Rivera winning at 106, Erik Beshada at 138 and Michael Oxley at 195. Oxly defeated High Point's Kyle Stoll, a returning state medalist, 2-0, in the finals.

Point Beach's Tommy D'Amore won the heavyweight title.

Robin Leff Invitational

At Southern Regional

The host Rams, the No. 2 ranked team in the Shore Sports Network Top 10, led the way with five champions as Chris Crane took the 120-pound title, Bryan Brown won at 132 over teammate Brian Bowker, Zach Wilhelm claimed 145, Nick Racanelli won at 152 and Gerardo Jorge was victorious at 170 pounds.

No. 8 Jackson Memorial had four champions in Fred Terranova (113), Connor Bohringer (182), Ken Bradley (220) and Brodie Graham (Hwt). Bradley defeated Moorestown's Tyreek Smith, the state's eighth-place finisher at 195 pounds in last years's tournament, 4-2 in the finals.

Barnegat's Greg Moran won the 195-pound title.

There was no team scoring in the event.

John and Betty Vogeding Tournament

At Paulsboro

No. 3 Howell won the team title with four champions as Peter Dee (106), Jimmy Slendorn (120), Anthony Gagliano (126) and Josue Pierre-Louis (138) won titles. Keansburg finished fourth and had a pair of individual champions in Dylan Alt at 182 and Tyree Sutton at 195.

Mount Olive Tournament

Fred Svenson (160) and Chad Freshnock (195) won individual titles and Middletown North had six wrestlers place among the top three to finish second in the team standings.

Harry McLaughlin Holiday Tournament

At Mahwah

Holmdel junior Pat Ammirati pinned his way to the 120-pound title en route to being selected as the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler.

Nottingham Tournament

Manchester finished fifth and Pinelands finished sixth in the 15-team field. The Hawks had a pair of finalists in Chris Rodriguez (120) and Isiah Jackson (170). The Wildcats saw Thomas Poklikuha win the 138-pound title and Corey Byrne (132) and James Mattina (160) finish second.

TCNJ Pride Tournament

At The College of New Jersey

Brick Memorial won the team title with five champions and a total of eight finalists. Freshman Giovanni Ghione won the 106-pound title and was selected as the tournament's Outstanding Wrestler. Luis Bocalman (126), Rob Ruggiero (152), Alec Donovan (145), Nick Costa (182) and Tyler Poling (220) also won titles for the No. 1 Mustangs with Jose Bocalman and Cliff Ruggiero placing second. Two-time state medalist Joe Ghione (132) also finished second because he had medical forfeit to Point Boro's Ryan Budzek because of an elbow injury sustained in the semifinals.

Budzek and Nick Dzuna won titles for Point Boro.

Toms River South was second in the team standings and Freehold Township was third. Owen McClave (113), Joe Salvato (160), Antrez Clagon (170) and James Kearney (Hwt) won titles for the Indians.

Matawan Icebreaker

Old Bridge won the team title with host Matawan finishing fourth and crowning three champions in Khalil Haskins (132), William Rodriguez (145) and James Pierce (152). Monsignor Donovan's Dom DiSalvo won the 182-pound title. Red Bank Catholic finished 6th, Monmouth 7th, Monsignor Donovan 8th and Manasquan 10th.

Pine Barrens Classic

Shore had five finalists and one champion as Dave Musselman claimed the heavyweight title. The Blue Devils finished in fourth place despite entering just 11 wrestlers.

Ewing Blue Devil Tournament

Alex Erven (106) and Darnell Holmes (152) won individual titles and Jake Andrews (145) and Alex Meza (170) finished second to help Keyport finish fifth as a team.

Edison Tournament

James Cross (126) and Tom Hinz (145) finished second to help Red Bank place fourth as a team.
