This week's Thrive Boys Soccer Player of the Week feature has a championship twist to it. Last week decided the champions of both the Shore Conference Tournament and Shore Conference Coaches Cup and the Player of the Week will be one of six players who stood out in the later rounds -- four from the SCT final four and two from the Coaches Cup championship.

Vote for the top performer from championship week in the poll at the bottom of the post and come back every hour to vote again. The poll closes Thursday at 10 p.m. and the winner will receive a shirt and a free training session, courtesy of Thrive.

John Gambale, CBA

It takes an entire team to win a Shore Conference Tournament championship, particularly when one of the best players on the team is unable to play. With Dimitry Corba sidelined due to a knee injury, CBA’s entire roster rose to the occasion. In the semifinals, it was the defense and in the championship game, it was Gambale’s work rate and marksmanship on the outside that earned CBA its first goal of the match and set the tone for the remainder of a 2-0 win over Howell – a victory that clinched the Colts their third straight SCT title.

Nick Turturro, Howell

Howell stormed into its second straight Shore Conference Tournament championship and Turturro helped the Rebels punch their ticket. The junior buried the first goal of Howell’s semifinal win over Toms River North, then served up a perfect ball for senior teammate Bryce Ocholla to head in for what proved to be the game-winner in a 2-1 Rebels win.

Luke Montanile, Toms River North

Toms River North is back among the Shore Conference’s upper echelon, which meant a return trip to the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals. Toms River North hung around with Howell in what turned out to be a 2-1 loss for the Mariners, but they got back in the game with a quick score from Montanile – one of the senior leaders of the team – when he pushed forward and knocked in a corner kick.

Landon Terrell, Middletown North

Middletown North only had one good chance to score in its loss to CBA in the Shore Conference Tournament semifinals, but the game remained close because of a solid defensive effort and another standout performance from Terrell. The senior continued to build upon his reputation as one of Monmouth County’s top keepers by saving five shots on goal by the Colts.

Stephan Kapranov, Holmdel

Although Holmdel did not enter the season with the Shore Conference Coaches Cup championship on its list of goals, the Hornets adjusted to their unexpected reality and used the tournament to improve and to make a point. Kapranov scored in each of the last two rounds of the tournament, including a dazzling overhead volley as part of a dominant performance in a 2-0 Holmdel win over Rumson-Fair Haven in the championship game.

Spencer Smith, Rumson-Fair Haven

Although he allowed two goals in a loss to Holmdel, Smith was in the running for man of the match in the Shore Conference Coaches Cup championship game. The senior delivered one breathtaking save after another while Rumson’s formation had no answer for Holmdel’s well-oiled attack. It took a bicycle kick through traffic and a perfectly-place, 19-yard direct kick to beat Smith, who finished with nine saves in the loss.
