PSE+G reports 445,000 customers remaining without power following Hurricane Sandy. The company in a press release reports  they have restarted an additional eight substations since our report this morning. Those stations serve parts of Jersey City, Hoboken, Union City, West New York, Weehawken, Plainfield, North Bergen, Carteret, Linden, Metuchen, Union Township and Woodbridge.

Power was immediately restored to some neighborhoods in these towns; in others cases, there are additional repairs that need to be made to the local distribution system before power comes back.

As a result the utility says crews and trucks will be more visible in neighborhoods as they can focus on distribution.

The utility notes that power may temporarily need to be cut to some areas so workers can safely repair nearby circuits.

PSE+G is also bringing in another 600 workers to supplement 3000 out-of-state workers already here.

JCP+L’s outage map indicates 484,011 customers still without power as of 8AM on Sunday. They say on their website that most customers will be restored by the end of the day on Wednesday. However, “customers in the hardest-hit areas can expect to be restored throughout the following week. A significant number of customers will not be able to receive service until damaged roads, infrastructure and homes are rebuilt,” cautions the utility.

On Saturday Governor Chris Christie has released restoration calendars from the electric utilities that will give communities an idea when they can expect power to be restored. The calendars are intended to “create greater certainty, transparency and accountabilit” as to when power will be restored according to Christie in a press release.
