Every week this season, Shore Conference football fans will have their chance to vote for the Surf Taco/Shore Sports Network Football Player of the Week on our website.

The Week 3 Player of the Week is Southern Regional junior running back Jaiden Brown, who had a career-best game to move closer to a program record while leading the Rams to an emphatic 48-14 win over Toms River North. Brown will receive a $25 gift card from Surf Taco.

Brown set a career-high by rushing for 240 yards and three touchdowns on just 12 carries to power a Southern offense that churned out nearly 500 yards. Brown had a 50-yard touchdown run early in the first quarter and then ripped off a 66-yard touchdown run to give Southern a 14-0 lead. Later in the first half after Toms River North had scored to cut the Rams’ lead to 21-7, Brown broke free for a 65-yard run that set up his own 1-yard touchdown run for a 28-7 lead.

After a great sophomore season where he rushed for 1,242 yards and 14 touchdowns to earn Shore Sports Network second-team All-Shore honors, Brown is off to a sensational start in 2020. In three games, Brown has rushed for 581 yards and nine touchdowns on an average of 9.7 yards per carry and is averaging 193.7 yards per game.

Brown is also closing in on the program's all-time rushing mark. Muhammad Abdullah is Southern's all-time leading rusher with 2,027 yards compiled in 1996 and 1997. With 1,823 yards in just 13 career games, Brown needs just 205 yards to set a new benchmark. Brown ran for 929 yards as a freshman at Jackson Liberty, which currently puts him at 2,752 yards rushing for his career.

With the win over Toms River North, Southern improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2008. The Rams are one of eight Shore Conference teams still undefeated and have the No. 3 scoring offense in the Shore at 37.3 points per game. They will try to keep their streak going this Friday night when they host Toms River South.

It was a very tight race for this week’s Player of the Week title, with Brown winning by less than one percentage point over both Manchester’s Savon Myers and Shore Regional’s Jamie Mazzacco.
