Lifeguards and the Jersey Shore go together like peanut butter and jelly. Guards do not just watch over the ocean, but they compete in lifeguard tournaments against other neighboring towns.

Last night, Spring Lake held its lifeguard tournament that consisted of other Monmouth County towns including Sandy Hook, Bradley Beach and the Monmouth County Parks System. Spring Lake was under a lot of pressure to defend their title as the top lifeguard team. Hosting the event only added to the pressure that the Spring Lake guards felt.

They did not seem to fold under the pressure though, as Spring Lake was able to hold off Sea Girt and Manasquan to win the Spring Lake Lifeguard Tournament. The efforts of the guards in the swim and power relays pushed Spring Lake to victory as they won both of those events. Manasquan won two events and finished in third place, while Sea Girt won one event, but finished in second overall.
