Boys SCT Final

No. 11 Freehold Twp. 2, No. 4 Wall 1

Sophomore Adrian Barajas and senior Jason Czajkowski both scored on headers off of crosses into the box in the first half and the Patriots held off the Crimson Knights to win their first SCT title since 2008.

The 6-foot-4 Barajas skied over the defense to knock in a well-placed cross by junior Mike Maltese, sent from the left corner in the 19th minute. Czajkowski gave Freehold Township a two-goal advantage with 40 seconds left in the first half when he headed home a higher-arching cross from senior Tim O'Donnell.

Wall cut the Patriots lead to 2-1 when Zach Hetzel won the ball near the outer reaches of the Freehold Township defensive third, took it to the left angle and slammed in a shot to the far left post from eight yards out with 3:08 left to play. Hetzel's goal was the first allowed by Freehold Township during the Shore Conference Tournament.

Girls SCT Final

No. 3 Wall 1, No. 1 Colts Neck 0

Senior Abigayle Musto popped a header over Colts Neck freshman goalkeeper Rebecca Eagan for the game's lone goal in the 44th minute and the Crimson Knights topped the Shore Conference Class B North rival Cougars for the second time this season to win the SCT for the first time since 1998.

Junior Dari Lyons sent a long pass into the wind and inside the 18-yard box, where Musto positioned herself for the header, beat a Colts Neck defender to the ball in the air for a shot that arched over Eagan and into the goal.

Wall's defense and sophomore goalkeeper Alex Panasuk shut down the high-powered Colts Neck attack, which was without sophomore standout and leading scorer Frankie Tagliaferri, a Penn State recruit who was at a high-level camp for the weekend. Colts Neck had not been shut out all year and had scored only one goal on just two occasions. Wall handed the Cougars their only other loss this season, a 3-2 win in overtime on Oct. 1.
