The Albany-bound Goldsmith had a monster week for the red-hot Blue Devils, registering 23 points and 23 ground balls in just three games to help lead Shore to a four-game winning streak and a 7-3 record.

Goldsmith scored six goals and added three assists in a 14-6 win over St. John Vianney last Wednesday. On Saturday he had two goals and five assists in an 18-10 win over Red Bank Catholic, and then duplicated that effort with two more goals and five assists in an 11-8 win over Middletown North. He had nine ground balls in the win over St. John Vianney, four against Red Bank Catholic and 10 versus Middletown North.

Goldsmith has recorded at least five points in eight of 10 games for Shore, which is enjoying its best season since going 13-5 in 2013. Goldsmith now has 31 goals and 31 assists on the season for 62 points, all three of which are career highs. He is 10th in the state in scoring. He also has 70 ground balls. His 165 career points are also the most in program history.

 

DIVISIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK, 4/19-4/25

CLASS A NORTH

Josh Nastarowicz, Jr., Attackman, Freehold Township

"Nasty" scored 22 points in three games as the Patriots earned wins over Marlboro, Neptune and Red Bank during a 3-0 week. Nastarowicz had four goals and five assists in a 14-3 win over Marlboro, three goals and three assists in a 14-5 win against Neptune and four goals and three assists in a 15-8 triumph over Red Bank. He has a team-high 48 points on 30 goals and 18 assists this season.

 

CLASS A SOUTH

Nick Simonelli, Sr., Attackman, Southern

Simonelli made his one game last week count, scoring five goals and adding five assists in a 16-6 victory over Lacey. He is one of 20 player statewide to record double-digit points in a game this season, and reached 150 career points in the win. Simonelli leads the Rams with 35 points on 17 goals and a team-best 18 assists in just five games.

 

CLASS B NORTH (Besides Goldsmith)

Joey Appio, Sr., Attackman, Ocean

A gifted passer with great vision, Appio had 16 points in two games, including 10 assists, to lead the unbeaten Spartans to wins over Red Bank and St. John Vianney. He tallied three goals and four assists in a 12-9 win over the Bucs and then had a hat trick plus six assists in a 16-2 victory over the Lancers. He has 23 goals and 38 assists for 61 points, which is tied for 11th in New Jersey in scoring.

 

CLASS B SOUTH

Mike Steppe, Sr., Attackman, Wall

The Crimson Knights' leading scorer struck for 12 points in three games this week while hitting a major career milestone. Steppe scored three goals with two assists in an 8-3 win over St. Rose and had three goals and one assist in a loss to Manasquan. In a 6-5 overtime win over St. John Vianney, Steppe once again had a hat trick, including the 100th goal of his career. Steppe has 32 goals and 27 assists for 59 points this season, good enough for top 15 in New Jersey.
