Every week this season, Shore Conference football fans will have their chance to vote for the Orthopaedic Institute of Central Jersey/Shore Sports Network Football Player of the Week on our website.

The Week 5 Player of the Week winner is Middletown South junior Vinny Condito, who led the Eagles in rushing yards and also delivered a huge special teams play in a 14-13 win over Toms River North that clinched the American Division championship.

The Eagles and the Mariners were tied, 7-7, at halftime but Toms River North pulled ahead on the first play of the third quarter when Will Marsh hauled in a 67-yard touchdown from quarterback Jake Kazanowksy. However, on the extra-point try, Condito knifed through the Mariners’ protection and blocked the kick.

On Middletown South’s go-ahead touchdown drive in the fourth quarter, Condito had a 14-yard run down to the 1-yard line that set up senior quarterback Trevor Brey for a touchdown run that tied the score at 13. Because of Condito’s blocked kick, senior Chris Kaldrovics was able to give Middletown South a 14-13 lead with his successful P.A.T.

The victory for Middletown South delivered the program its 19th division title, including its third in the last four seasons and 11th under head coach Steve Antonucci.

Condito won the closest poll of the season with 16.06 percent of the votes, edging Holmdel running back Cameron LaMountain, Monmouth quarterback Drew Faccone and Keyport quarterback Shykim Treadwell.
