Every week this season, Shore Conference wrestling fans will have their chance to vote for the Shore Sports Network Wrestler of the Week on our website.

The winner of the reader's vote for the opening weekend of the season is Lacey freshman Brady Carter, who had an impressive high school debut to win the 106-pound title at the Garden State Classic.

Carter, who was a middle school state champion as an eighth-grader, dominated the field at Barnegat High School in the 15-team Garden State Classic. Carter won by fall in three of his bouts and by 15-0 technical fall in the other, going unscored upon in the entire tournament.

Carter began his high school career by scoring a fall in 3:21 over Point Boro's Lucas Torre in the first round. He followed by pinning Somerville's Tanner Donato in just 55 seconds in the quarterfinals and winning by 15-0 technical fall over Dumont's Mark Peter in the semifinals. In the championship bout, Carter pinned Cherry Hills West's Jaxon Casida to complete his run to the title.

Carter was one of three individual champions for Lacey, joining senior Hunter Gutierrez at 132 pounds and junior Jackson Brandt at 170 pounds as the Lions finished third in the team standings to lead the Shore Conference contingent.

Carter and Lacey return to action Wednesday night with a Class B South match at Lakewood. On Saturday, the Lions have a quad meet at Hackettstown with Mendham and Orange.

It was a one-sided poll this week with Carter securing 53.67 percent of the votes to win over Soutnern's Robert Woodcock and Barnegat's Charlie Cotton.
