Group Championships

Group IV

Freehold Twp. 3, Ridgewood 0

Senior Hailey Santiago scored a goal in each half and the Patriots (20-3) beat the Maroons (17-2-2) for the second straight season to capture their second consecutive Group IV championship.

Freehold Township jumped on top in the seventh minute on a combination played by Santiago and junior teammate Gaby Parker. Santiago pushed the ball forward and had it knocked away by a Ridgewood defender. The ball landed at Parker's feet and she played it back over to Santiago, who raced past her defender and finished to the far left corner of the goal.

Senior Ainsley Moy added to the lead in the 33rd minute by initiating an own goal. Santiago sent a pass forward to Moy, who beat a defender up the sideline, then along the end-line. Moy made it all the way to the edge of the six-yard box and slammed a cross off the leg of a defender and in.

Junior goalkeeper Ashley Moore saved a shot on the near post off a Ridgewood corner midway through the second half and grazed a laser by UCLA commit Isabella Winn that ended up hitting the bottom of the crossbar and landing just outside the goal. Parker also hit the right post with a header in the 14th minute.

Freehold Township added a third goal in the 45th minute when junior Danielle Howard played Hailey Santiago through and the senior ripped a shot inside the near right post for a 3-0 Patriots lead.

Group I

Mountain Lakes 4, Point Beach 2

Point Beach twice cut a two-goal deficit to one, but the Lakers (15-7) held off the Garnet Gulls (15-4) to win the Group I title at their expense for the second straight year.

Ashton Parker assisted a goal by Abigail Hawes in the 16th minute, then scored one in the 27th off the first of two assists by Daisy Duda to stake Mountain Lakes to a 2-0 lead.

Coming off a 5-1 loss to Mountain Lakes in last year's championship game, Point Beach fought back to the brink of tying the game twice. In the final two minutes of the first half, sophomore Baileigh Johnson settled the ball off a corner kick from sophomore Sophie Fogler and ripped it into the lower left of the goal with 1:16 remaining in the first half.

Mountain Lakes pushed the lead back to two goals with a one-timed finish by Maya Ritchie off a cross from Duda in the 45th minute.

The Garnet Gulls answered five minutes later with a strike from freshman Katie Kirchner off a feed from junior Samantha Miles.

Point Beach made a heavy push for the equalizer over the next eight minutes, before Mountain Lakes settled the game. The Lakers put the game on ice in the 79th minute, with Hawes finishing her second goal off another pass from Parker.

Group II

Ramsey 3, Wall 1

Nina Davis scored two goals and assisted another to lead the Rams (19-3) past the Crimson Knights (13-4-3) to claim their first state championship since 2011.

Davis worked through a scrum in front of the goal off a corner kick by Alexa Friedland to finish off the first goal of the game in the 24th minute.

Wall mounted a prompt response, with junior Erin Farrell heading in a corner kick from classmate Erynn Richey 30 minutes into the match. The Crimson Knights rode into halftime with a 7-3 advantage in shots and even with Ramsey, 1-1.

The Rams took control in the second half and regained the lead in the 44th, when Davis slipped a pass through to Kendell Reid, who finished to the far left corner of the goal.

Ramsey tacked on a devastating insurance goal in the 57th when Davis drew a foul inside the 18-yard box and buried the penalty kick.

Wall was making its second straight appearance in the Group II final after losing to West Morris, 1-0, last year.
