Several coaches from the Shore Conference were honored recently during the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association/New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association Hall of Fame event at the Pines Manor in Edison. Inducted into the NJSCA Hall of Fame were Middletown South football coach Steve Antonucci, Ocean Township softball coach Mark Frankel and Colts Neck athletic trainer Eric Nussbaum.

In addition the National Federation of Coaches Association (NFCA) honored 25 coaches as State Coaches of the Year in their sports and that group was headed up by a pair of legendary leaders from Christian Brothers Academy. Saluted were baseball coach Marty Kenney whose 764 wins in 43 seasons is second all-time in New Jersey and tennis coach Dan Keane, who will retire at the end of his 36th season and has a career record of 653-155. Also honored as NJ Coaches of the Year were Red Bank Catholic’s Jim Portela (Football), Middletown North’s Matt Clemente (Ice Hockey), Shore Regional’s Kelly Koenig (Field Hockey), St Rose girls basketball coach Joe Whalen and longtime Matawan girls and boys track coach Sam Turner.
