Brick, NJ- After starting the season with lofty goals and suffering a conference loss to Jackson Memorial 2-1, the Brick Memorial Mustangs girls soccer team is back on track.  Wednesday afternoon the Mustangs took on cross-town rival Brick Township and walked away with an impressive 6-2 win and their third straight win.

After their disappointing opening day loss, the Mustangs got back to basic and have found their groove and continue to grow as one on the young season.  Brick Memorial is now 3-1 overall and 2-1 in A-South.

Senior midfield Lindsay Hernandez got her first goal of the season (6th career) to put the Mustangs up early.  Another senior, Melissa Merritt, gave the Mustangs a 2 goal lead shortly after to pick up her second goal of the season (eleventh career).

Brick Township would finally get on the board when junior forward Kendall Stadelberger picked up her first goal of the day (5th of season and 19th career) to take the contest into half at 2-1.

The Mustangs wasted not time putting this game out of reach when senior Taylor Schaad picked up her third and fourth goals of the season (eighteenth and nineteenth career) to give Brick Memorial a 4-1 lead with just over twenty minutes left in the game.

The Dragons pulled to within 4-2 on a foul in the box that Stadelberger converted the penalty kick for her second goal of the game, just out of the reach of Memorial's Hailey Dietz who finished with 6 saves on the day.

Brick Memorial's sophomore forward Leah Scarpelli picked up her third and fourth goals of the season to make the score 6-2 and finish off the scoring.  Scarpelli, a US National team defender, continues to shine on offense for coach Billy Caruso's squad where she is able to be a playmaker for the Mustangs.

With Scarpelli causing problems up top for opposing defense, the Mustangs other offensive weapons of Hernandez, Schaad and Merritt look to take advantage of the open opportunities and produce offensive numbers the Mustangs program has been used too in years past.

The Mustangs will look to improve on last seasons 10 win season and compete for A-South, Shore Conference Tournament and NJSIAA titles this season.

Next up for Brick Memorial (3-1 overall…2-1 A-South) is Toms River East 9/16, Howell 9/17 and Toms River South 9/20.

Next up for Brick Township (1-2 overall...1-2 A-South) is Southern 9/15, Barnegat 9/19 and Toms River North 9/20.
