FRIDAY, SEPT. 22

Class A South

Brick Memorial 35, Toms River South 0

Senior fullback Tony Thorpe ran for three touchdowns, senior Blaine Netterman scored once and junior quarterback Tyler Sindel tossed a touchdown pass to senior Grant McKelvey as the Mustangs (2-1, 2-1) blanked the Indians (1-2, 1-1).

Willy Garner and Tyler Gonzalez led the defensive effort in the shutout for Brick Memorial.

Brick 20, Toms River North 0

Junior quarterback Jimmy Leblo threw a pair of touchdowns to junior Cole Groschel, while also running for a touchdown, to lead the Dragons (3-0, 3-0) past the Mariners (0-3, 0-3).

Toms River East 16, Southern 8

The Raiders (1-2, 1-2) built a 16-0 lead and held off the Rams (1-3, 1-2) to snap an 11-game losing streak and give head coach Kyle Sandberg his first career victory.

Evan Otten and Louie Gallo IV had rushing touchdowns while senior Tommy Ferrante made a tackle in the end zone for a safety. Pete Wilenta and Nick Silvia had interceptions to lead the defensive effort.

Class A Central

No. 2 St. John Vianney 31, Red Bank 7

Senior quarterback Haaziq Daniels threw two touchdown passes and senior running back Johnny Buchanan had a pair of touchdown runs as the Lancers (3-0, 3-0) pulled away from a game Bucs (0-3, 0-2) team in the fourth quarter to win their 32nd straight game against Shore Conference teams.

Daniels' touchdown pass to senior Sam East was the only score of the first half, and Red Bank tied the game in the third quarter with a fake punt that went for a touchdown. Will Forman's field goal put SJV back in front, but it was just 10-7 heading to the fourth quarter.

From there the Lancers took over and looked like the team that averaged 62 points per game over the first two weeks. Buchanan's first touchdown run made it 17-7, and Daniels threw a touchdown pass to Josiah Walker to make it 24-7. Buchanan polished off the victory with his second touchdown run.

Monmouth 14, Matawan 13 - Game story and highlights

A 2-yard touchdown run by senior quarterback Ian Fitzgerald with 8:34 left in the game propelled the Falcons (4-0, 2-0) past the Huskies (1-2, 1-2) for their first 4-0 start since 2006.

It is also Monmouth's first ever win over Matawan since 1963, snapping a 21-game losing streak.

Ryan Rodriguez threw a 7-yard touchdown pass to Noah Colleton to give Matawan an early 7-0 lead, but Monmouth came right back when Dayshawn Porter connected with Devon Johnson on a 93-yard touchdown.

A interception and long return by Devonte Spann set up Rodriguez for a 2-yard touchdown run and a 13-7 Matawan lead with 2:06 left in the third quarter.

Fitzgerald, who did not play in the first half, had a 39-yard run down to Matawan's 20-yard line on the drive that culminated with his game-tying touchdown and Johnson's go-ahead extra point.

Class B North

Middletown South 10, Manasquan 7 - Game story and highlights

A interception by junior defensive back Matt Cruz with under a minute left halted a Manasquan drive in Middletown South territory and enabled the Eagles (2-1, 2-1) to come away with a nail-biting victory over the Warriors (1-2, 0-1).

After a scoreless first half, Middletown South got on the board in the third quarter via a 33-yard field goal by junior Chris Kaldrovics. Later in the third, senior quarterback Ben Kinsella took a read-option keeper 50 yards for a touchdown to put Middletown South up 10-0.

Manasquan would make it 10-7 with five minutes left in the third quarter when senior Tommy Antonucci returned a fumble 28 yards for a touchdown.

Middletown South linebacker Jake Krellin had a big game with three tackles for a loss, while junior linebacker Matt Tardy had a pair of hits behind the line of scrimmage.

Senior defensive lineman Evan Hilla had two tackles for a loss for Manasquan.

Class B Central

Shore 27, Keansburg 20

The Blue Devils (2-1, 2-0) won a back-and-forth thriller over the Titans (1-2, 0-2) to remain tied atop the division standings.

A 45-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Jashawn Martin gave Keansburg an early 7-0 lead, but Shore tied the score on a 1-yard run by Kevin Pennell. The Titans re-took the lead, 14-7, when senior quarterback Danny Vital connected with Martin for a 19-yard touchdown. Shore answered when Jack McCrae brok off a 61-yard touchdown, but Keansburg still led, 14-13, after the extra point was no good.

John Salerno's 5-yard touchdown run and the 2-point conversion run by sophomore Terry Carlstrom gave Shore a 21-14 lead with 35 seconds left in the first half.

Keansburg pulled to within 21-20 on an 8-yard touchdown run by Vital with 6:56 left in regulation, but the extra point was no good. Shore would add another touchdown with 1:05 left in the game.

Point Beach 22, Asbury Park 19

A 6-yard touchdown run by senior running back Chris Webber late in the third quarter held up as the winning score as the Garnet Gulls (3-0, 2-0) rallied form a 19-8 halftime deficit to earn a key division win over the Blue Bishops (1-2, 1-2).

Quadir Lawson gave Asbury Park a 7-0 lead with a 44-yard touchdown run before Point Beach took an 8-7 lead on a 34-yard touchdown pass from Luke Frauenheim to Josh Yates, plus a 2-point conversion.

A 5-yard touchdown run by Donte Abrams gave Asbury Park a 13-8 lead, and Abrams' 17-yard touchdown reception from Ja'King Agostini had the Bishops up by 11 at the half.

An 11-yard touchdown run by Frauenheim, plus a 2-point conversion, pulled Point Beach to within 19-14 before Webber's touchdown put the Gulls ahead for good.

Point Beach senior running back/kicker Sean Gould was injured late in the first half and was on crutches on the sideline in the second half.

Class B South

No. 8 Point Boro 34, Donovan Catholic 20

Senior running back Brandon Cipriano ran for 103 yards and three touchdowns on 10 carries en route to being named Jersey Mike's/Ocean Trophies Player of the Game as the Panthers (3-0, 3-0) remained unbeaten by holding off the Griffins (1-2, 1-2).

Senior quarterback James Fara added a game-high 187 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries and senior fullback Nathan Chiarello had 53 yards and a touchdown on nine carries. Point Boro ran for 356 yards on 49 carries.

Senior safety Trevor NcNamara led the Panthers' defense with 10 tackles while linebacker Garrett Romer made 7.5 stops and Ronnie Leyda recovered a fumble.

Sophomore quarterback Ryan Clark threw a 67-yard touchdown pass to Andre Laney and also had a 2-yard touchdown run for Donovan Catholic. Yassin Moore added a touchdown run with 4:33 left in the game.

Barnegat 28, Manchester 20 - Game story and highlights

Junior tight end Sean Morris caught five passes for 152 yards and two touchdowns and senior Dillon Muratovic had a pair of touchdown runs as the Bengals (3-0, 2-0) defeated the Hawks (2-1, 2-1) to improve to 3-0 for the first time since 2013.

Morris caught touchdowns of 26 and 53 yards from junior quarterback Brian Finucan in the first half as Barnegat built a 20-12 lead. Muratovic had a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and a 5-yard score in the fourth quarter.

Manchester quarterback Jerry Ward had a 36-yard touchdown run and also threw a 35-yard touchdown pass to senior running back Jalen Glenn. Devin Zemot added a 1-yard touchdown run for the Hawks.

Nondivisional

Wall 28, Raritan 10

Senior quarterback Eddie Scott threw a pair of touchdown passes to Tanner Powers and another to Chevesse Covin as the Crimson Knights (3-0) continued their early-season surge by knocking off the Rockets (0-3).

Senior linebacker Tim McKernan added a 35-yard interception return for a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

SATURDAY, SEPT. 23

Class A North

Freehold Township 24, Marlboro 13

Junior quarterback Nick Reardon threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns to lead the Patriots (3-0, 3-0) past the Mustangs (0-3, 0-2).

Senior Pat Laricy had five catches for 94 yards and a touchdown, and also had an interception on defense. Junior Anthony Simonelli had three catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns, while sophomore running back Nic Nasso ran for 77 yards and a touchdown on 15 carries. Junior Gaven Ferraro ran for a game-high 90 yards on 14 carries.

Senior defensive end Damian Rybaltowski led Freehold Township's defense with 10 tackles, including three for loss.

Kyle Moore threw for 152 yards and a touchdown, Justin Marcus had five catches for 60 yards and Dontrell Alston ran for 74 yards on 14 carries to lead Marlboro. Senior linebacker Arthur Bader made 10 tackles.

No. 9 Freehold 42, Neptune 0

Senior quarterback Ashante Worthy had another huge game with five total touchdowns to lead the Colonials (1-2, 1-2) to their first official win of the season.

Worthy had three passing touchdowns and two rushing touchdowns with close to 300 yards of offense in the first half alone, including four touchdowns in the first quarter. Freshman Ahmad Dixon added a touchdown run in the third quarter.

The shutout was Freehold's first since 2011.

The victory was the first of the season for Freehold because its Week 1 win over Freehold Township (46-20) was changed to a forfeit loss because the Colonials self-reported using an ineligible player.

Class A Central

No. 6 Rumson-Fair Haven 40, Holmdel 24 - Photo Gallery

Senior running back Peter Lucas ran for 239 yards and three touchdowns on 25 carries as the Bulldogs (2-0, 2-0) rolled past the Hornets (2-2, 0-2).

Lucas added 65 receiving yards, while fullback Alex Maldjian had 79 yards rushing on nine carries. Quarterback Dan Harby threw for 139 yards and a touchdown, and also ran for a score. Tight end Ian O'Connor had 62 yards and a touchdown.

Class A South

Central 14, Jackson Memorial 13

Sophomore running back Kavon Chambers had an 18-yard touchdown run and senior defensive back Jonathan Banks had a 50-yard interception return on the final play of the first half as the Golden Eagles (3-1, 3-0) edged the Jaguars (1-2, 0-2) to remain tied for first place in the division.

Senior fullback Tom Pellone had a pair of short touchdown runs for Jackson Memorial.

Class B North

No. 3 Red Bank Catholic 47, Ocean 0

Senior running back Zack Bair had four touchdown runs and junior quarterback Steve Lubischer had a pair of touchdowns as the Caseys (3-0, 3-0) ran past the Spartans (0-4, 0-3).

Lubishcer had a 34-yard touchdown run and also threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Jaden Key. Billy Guidetti added a 5-yard touchdown run.

No. 4 Mater Dei Prep 44, Keyport 13

Class B South

Lakewood 32, Jackson Liberty 29

Senior quarterback Zyheir Jones returned from an injury with a huge game that lead the Piners (1-2, 1-2) to their first victory of the season.

Jones threw touchdowns of 32 and 16 yards to twin brother Jyheri Jones and ran for a 15-yard score in the second half. On defense, Jones made nine tackles and had two interceptions.

Lacey 35, Pinelands 21

Senior running back Jason Giresi ran for three touchdowns and senior quarterback Coleton Klaus ran for a pair of scores as the Lions (2-1, 1-1) bounced back with a win over the Wildcats (1-2, 0-2).

Brennan Richardson had a 36-yard touchdown run, caught a 35-yard touchdown pass from Garrett Brown and also ran in a 2-point conversion for Pinelands. Evan Burton added a 1-yard touchdown run.

Nondivisional

No. 7 Long Branch 43, Colts Neck 13

Sophomore running back Jermaine Colbert ran for over 100 yards and three touchdowns as the Green Wave (2-0) returned from their bye week to cruise past the Cougars (0-3).

Colbert had touchdown runs of 87, 10 and 1 yards, while senior Elijah Sherin added a 2-yard touchdown run. Senior quarterback Juwan Wilkins had a 34-yard touchdown pass to T.J. Fosque and 3-yard touchdown pass to Pasa Fields. Paul Montague added a 20-yard field goal.

Joey Mauriello had a 61-yard touchdown run and Sabeer Quddus had a 12-yard touchdown run for Colts Neck.

No. 5 Howell 28, No. 10 Middletown North 26 - Game story and highlights

Senior quarterback Eddie Morales threw for 245 yards and four touchdowns on 20 of 23 passing to lead the Rebels (3-0) past the Lions (1-2) for their first 3-0 start since 2010.

Senior wide receiver Naseim Brantley had eight catches for 116 yards and three touchdowns, and Morales also ran for a team-high 52 yards. Morales also threw a 19-yard touchdown to Brandon Wilson to go along with touchdown passes of 24, 12 and 5 to Brantley.

Connor Robbins ran for 52 yards and three touchdowns for Middletown North, including a 6-yard touchdown run with 5:16 left to pull the Lions within two points. Howell was able to stop Austin Dewise on the 2-point conversion attempt, however, to keep its advantage. Connor Welsh ran for a game-high 96 yards, Sean Glenn threw for 162 yards and Dewise had a 15-yard rushing touchdown.

Nonconference

No. 1 Manalapan 34, Old Bridge 13

Senior running back Naim Mayfield ran for 230 yards and three touchdowns as the Braves improved to 3-0 by downing the Knights.

Mayfield had touchdown runs of 3, 72 and 55 yards, while senior fullback Chris Maksimik added a 1-yard touchdown run. Senior Symir Blacknall returned a kickoff 90 yards for a touchdown.
