CLASS A NORTH

Freehold 21, Colts Neck 7

Junior quarterback Ashante Worthy ran for 115 yards and a touchdown, threw a touchdown pass and returned an interception for a touchdown to lead the Colonials (2-4, 1-4) past the Cougars (1-5, 1-4) for their second straight win.

Worthy tossed a 53-yard touchdown strike to Markee Gill in the second quarter, then broke off a 45-yard touchdown run to give Freehold a 14-0 halftime lead. His 48-yard pick six sealed the victory.

Senior quarterback Hayden Volk threw for 119 yards and an touchdown 11-yard touchdown to junior wide receiver John Prus. Senior linebacker Steven Barsky had a monster game in the loss with 14 total tackles, three tackles for a loss and a sack.

 

Neptune 42, Marlboro 26

Senior wide receiver Kahmar Rice led a furious comeback by the Scarlet Fliers (2-3, 2-2) with four total touchdowns, including three in the fourth quarter, in a win over the Mustangs (2-4, 0-4).

With Neptune trailing 26-13, Rice returned a punt 65 yards for a touchdown, then caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Chase Fairbanks to give the Fliers a 34-26 lead. He clinched the win with a 64-yard interception return for a touchdown. He also had an 11-yard touchdown catch in the second quarter. Fairbanks also threw a 22-yard touchdown to Jules Calhoun, and Malik Ingram had a 9-yard touchdown run.

Junior running back Johnny Helff, who started for injured senior Cameron Caorsi, ran for 169 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries. Senior Mike Wolff threw a 53-yard touchdown pass to senior wide out Ed Spinello, and senior cornerback Mike Digangi returned an interception 47 yards for a touchdown.

 

CLASS A CENTRAL

Red Bank 33, Monmouth 0

Chris Brannagan ran for two touchdowns and Stephen Navitsky threw for two scores, while senior linebacker Chris Outterbridge led the defense to its first shutout of the season as the Bucs (2-2, 2-1) blanked the Falcons (2-5, 1-3).

Brannagan had a 55-yard touchdown run in the first quarter when Red Bank jumped out to a 21-0 lead. He added a 59-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter, and finished with 130 yards on eight carries. Navitsky threw a 22-yard touchdown to Dan Wagner in the first quarter and a 59-yard score to Outterbridge in the second quarter. Noah Mickens added a 6-yard touchdown run in the first quarter.

 

CLASS B NORTH

Manasquan 28, Ocean 14

Junior running back Connor Morgan ran for 183 yards and a score and senior quarterback Jerry Maher tossed two touchdowns to lead the Warriors (4-1, 2-1) past the Spartans (2-4, 0-4).

Morgan had an eight-yard touchdown run and Maher threw a 45-yard touchdown to senior wide out Damaso Jaimie and a 21-yard touchdown to senior tight end Adam Schreck. Senior fullback Tommy Meyer had a 1-yard touchdown run. Schreck was also a force on defense with two sacks, three tackles for loss, a pass deflection and a forced fumble.

Ocean senior quarterback Kenny Pickett ran for two touchdowns and threw for 187 yards. Senior wide receiver Joey Aldarelli had 11 receptions for 114 yards.

 

NONCONFERENCE

Keyport 47, Dunellen 8

Sophomore running back Devin Wollner ran for 181 yards and two touchdowns as the Red Raiders (5-1, 3-1) pummeled the Destroyers (0-5).

Senior Cody Young got the Raiders started with touchdown runs of 41 and 15 yards in the first quarter before Rayquan Brown returned a punt 80 yards for a score to put Keyport up 20-0. Wollner added touchdown runs of 18 and 78 yards in the third quarter to push the lead to 33-0. A 24-yard touchdown run by Greg Robinson and a 23-yard touchdown run by Jahmir Jones in the fourth quarter capped the scoring.

 

Point Beach 31, Spotswood 12

The Garnet Gulls (4-2) scored four touchdowns of 30 yards or more to win their third straight game and hand the Chargers (5-1) their first loss of the season.

Junior quarterback Luke Frauenheim ran for 101 yards and a touchdown on seven carries and also threw for 93 yards and a touchdown. Wide receiver Connor Kells was the recipient of all the receiving yardage. Senior running back Jack Baker ran for 82 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries.

Jacob Clement got the scoring started for Point Beach with a 39-yard touchdown run that tied the score at seven in the first quarter. A field goal put Spotswood ahead, but Frauenheim and Kells connected on a 70-yard touchdown to put the Gulls in front for good. Sean Gould added a 36-yard field goal to send Point Beach into halftime leading 17-10.

Baker's 42-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter extended Point Beach's lead to 24-12, and Frauenheim's 30-yard scoring run sealed the win.

 

Keansburg 41, Sussex Tech 25

The Titans (1-5) erupted for 332 yards rushing to take down the Fighting Mustangs (4-2) and earn their first win of the season.

Sophomore running back Liam Riecks ran for 146 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries and junior quarterback Danny Vital added 113 yards and two scores on 15 carries. Vital also completed 5 of 6 passes for 41 yards and a score, and junior fullback Joe Osterbye had a short touchdown run.

Vital had touchdown runs of 18 and 4 yards, Riecks ran for a 1-yard score and a 7-yard touchdown, and Darius Moore hauled in a 20-yard touchdown catch from Vital.

 

Shore 35, Middlesex 7

Senior quarterback Matt Pennell had a touchdown on the ground and one through the air as the Blue Devils (4-2) downed the winless Blue Jays (0-6) on the road.

Pennell had a 44-yard touchdown run and threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Quadir Lawson. Lukas Jackey scored on a 10-yard run, Mark Russo had a 3-yard touchdown run and Josh Campi broke off a 48-yard touchdown run.
