Class A North

Freehold Township 44, Colts Neck 7

Senior quarterback Charles Sabbagh completed 23 of 42 passes for 340 yards and three touchdowns and senior kicker Tyler Schulman converted three field goals with a long of 41 as the Patriots (2-0, 2-0) high-powered passing attack overwhelmed the Cougars (0-2, 0-2).

Sabbagh threw touchdown passes of 51 and 31 yards to senior wide out Adrian Rybaltowski and and 85-yarder to senior Tyrique Hall. Rybaltowski finished with 144 yards on five receptions while Hall had an even 100 yards on five catches. Senior running back Max Nowak had a 27-yard rushing touchdown on his only carry and Johnny Manfre added a three-yard touchdown run.

Schulman finished with 14 points by going 5-for-5 on extra points and hitting field goals of 26, 41 and 30 yards.

Junior cornerback Pat Laricy had an interception for Freehold Township.

Senior Vinny Gargiulo scored on a 1-yard run for Colts Neck's lone touchdown.

 

Howell 41, Freehold 21

Junior quarterback Eddie Morales threw for 261 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for a score as the Rebels (2-0, 2-0) rolled up 425 yards of offense to pull away from the Colonials (0-2, 0-2).

Junior wide receiver Nasiem Brantley caught five passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns and also had an interception on defense. Brantley's scores went for 43 and 48 yards. Junior running back Nick Chambers ran for 87 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries and senior running back Mekai Gandy also found the end zone on the ground.

Malachi Wells tossed an 11-yard touchdown to junior receiver Thomas Papirnik and a 43-yard score to senior wideout Ahlonte Hair, and junior running back Ashante Worthy ran for a 16-yard touchdown fro Freehold

 

Class B Central

Keyport 14, No. 10 Asbury Park 7

Sophomore running back Devin Wallner led a punishing second-half rushing attack while the Red Raiders' defense snatched four interceptions to upend the Blue Bishops (1-1, 1-1) and give Keyport the early division lead.

Wallner, all of 5-foot-3 and 160 pounds, rumbled for 146 yards on 23 carries, including 116 in the second half. Fellow sophomore Greg Robinson scored on a four-yard run with 5:58 left in the game for the go-ahead touchdown as Keyport (2-0, 2-0) rallied from a 7-0 halftime deficit.

Senior quarterback Chris Hogrefe went 5-for-9 for 79 yards, including a 53-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Cody Young on the first possession of the third quarter to tie the game at seven.

Asbury Park scored on the opening series with a 15-play, 76-yard drive that concluded with junior quarterback JaKing Agostini connecting with junior wideout Donte Abrams on a 13-yard score. Keyport's defense held the Blue Bishops' running game to just 86 yards while forcing four turnovers. Senior Jay Hansen, Rayquan Brown and Young and junior Zach Walker all had interceptions.

Keyport is 2-0 for the first time since 2009.

 

Class B South

Lakewood 52, Donovan Catholic 14

Junior quarterback Zyhier Jones threw four touchdown passes and ran for another as the Piners (2-0, 2-0) blew out the Griffins (0-2, 0-2).

Twin brother Jyhier Jones was on the receiving end of three of those scoring throws while senior Adi Palmer hauled in the other. Honroe Richardson was all over the field with a fumble return for a touchdown, a rushing touchdown and an interception.

 

Nonconference

Monmouth 33, Metuchen 22

Senior quarterback Jay Eustace ran for three touchdowns and threw for two more as the Falcons (2-1) rallied from a 14-point deficit to down the Bulldogs (1-1).

Middlesex owned a 14-0 halftime lead, but Eustace scored on runs of five and one yards in the third quarter to pull the Falcons to within 14-12. In the fourth quarter, Eustace threw a 40-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Walker and a 17-yard score to Devon Johnson, then added a 22-yard tun to put Monmouth up 33-14.

 

Highland Park 33, Keansburg 20
