RiverDogs Score Three in Ninth to Beat BlueClaws 4-1
Charleston scored three times in the ninth inning and topped the BlueClaws 4-1 on Monday night in the first game of a week-long BlueClaws homestand. The BlueClaws dropped their fourth straight game in the process.
Charleston (Yankees) scored their first ninth inning run off Lakewood's Ulises Joaquin (0-1) when a passed ball plated Michael O'Neill. Eduardo de Oleo followed with a two-run home run, his second of the season, to complete the scoring.
Mark Leiter Jr. allowed one run over six innings with seven strikeouts for the BlueClaws (4-12) and got a no-decision. Charleston starter Luis Severino also got a no-decision after allowing three hits and no runs with eight strikeouts in 5.2 innings pitched.
The RiverDogs (9-8) started the scoring in the fourth inning with Aaron Judge, who tripled, scoring on a Leiter wild pitch. Lakewood tied the game in the 7th inning when Gabriel Lino drove in Andrew Pullin with an RBI double.
Jaron Long (2-1), who allowed a run in 2.1 innings got the win while Nick Rumbelow tossed a scoreless ninth inning for his third save.
Willians Astudillo continued his hot hitting for Lakewood, going 3-4. Astudillo is now 20-44 on the season with seven multi-hit games in his 11 games played.
Abiatal Avelino, Aaron Judge, and De Oleo had two hits for Charleston.
The series continues on Tuesday night at 6:35 pm. Tyler Viza (1-2, 3.71) will start for Lakewood opposite RHP Giovanny Gallegos (0-2, 5.65).
