It was created in 1991by Pete Dowd of Brick and for years he and his committee would induct and honor individuals during an annual Awards Dinner.  I had the pleasure of serving as Master of Ceremonies for many of those events and in 2008 was inducted myself. Clearly a great honor.

After a brief hiatus I am thrilled to announce that through a partnership between the Lakewood BlueClaws and Townsquare Media the Jersey Shore Sports Hall of Fame will be induct its next class on Saturday, June 29th as part of a BlueClaws game at FirstEnergy Park.

Greg Giombarrese, the radio voice and Media & Public Relations Director of the team and I formed a new committee back in the fall to re-start the Hall of Fame and the newest class is made up of 8 individuals as well as the Toms River East Little League team which won the World Series 15 summers ago in Williamsport,  Pennsylvania.

Headlining the new class of Hall of Famers are:

  • Indianapolis Colts running back and former Red Bank Catholic standout Donald Brown
  • UFC fighter Frankie Edgar of Toms River
  • Former Lacey Township High School NFL running back Keith Elias
  • Lacey Township High School coach Lou Vircillo.
  •  University of Denver & Toms River East basketball coach Joe Scott
  • Brookdale Community College record-breaking softball coach Bo Scannapieco
  • former high school, college and pro softball great Michele Carson-Neveling
  • longtime Toms River East wrestling coach Warren Reid.

Those eight along with the East Little League team will be honored prior to the BlueClaws game on Saturday, June 29th with ceremonies to begin at 6:10pm.

In addition the event is open to the public who can join the honorees for an all-you-can-eat buffet in a picnic area by calling Kristin Klein of the BlueClaws at 732-901-7000, extension 117.  Of course anyone purchasing a ticket to the game that night can view the on-field festivities.

Special thanks to the committee who worked with Greg and me to bring the Jersey Shore Sports Hall of Fame back and hopefully better than ever.
