Clearly today and every day is a difficult one for his family and close friends and while they miss him greatly his memory is kept very much alive through a foundation in his name.  The James Volpe Foundation was formed shortly after his tragic death and this non-profit 501(c) (3) charity has hosted numerous events which have assisted individuals, families and other organizations.

With that said their 4th annual golf outing will be held on Monday, June 15th at Pine Barrens Golf Club in Jackson and it promises to be a great day which will benefit others. Golfers will enjoy lunch before hitting the links for a shotgun start at 12:30 and at the conclusion of the day there will be an awards dinner that will also include a silent auction featuring some great sports collectables, raffles and more.

For those who don’t play golf and/or can’t spend the day at Pine Barrens then you can purchase tickets for the dinner separately.  Monies raised from past golf classics have been used to fund college scholarships, assist families with financial hardships, support Jackson Memorial’s SADD chapter, and provide donations to Children’s Specialized Hospital and more.

The foundation has also added a scholarship for an incoming freshman to Kean University which is where James planned on attending and would have graduated from later this month. The third time was the charm for the Southern Regional Boys Lacrosse team who toppled Rumson-Fair Haven 16-6 in the championship game of the Shore Conference Tournament Tuesday at Monmouth University. It was the third straight year the Rams and Bulldogs met in the finals and Southern finally prevailed to become the first Ocean County school to win the event.

Chris Smith scored five goals and Nick Simonelli added three goals and three assists for Coach John Pampalone’s undefeated Rams who will begin their bid for a state sectional title later this week.
