Behind an MVP performance from starter Dave DeFeo, Mystic Island Post 493/Pinelands shut out Brick Post 348 2-0 to win the Ocean County American Legion Tournament championship on Friday night at Toms River East.

DeFeo struck out 14 in a complete-game two-hitter to earn MVP honors for the Wildcats, who did not lose a game in the double-elimination tournament. They put together a great run after finishing last during the regular season, which included a 6-2 win over top-seeded Toms River South, the regular-season champion, early in the tournament.
