Every week this season, Shore Conference football fans will have their chance to vote for the Orthopaedic Institute of Central Jersey/Shore Sports Network Football Player of the Week on our website, with over 100,000 votes cast already this season.

The Player of the Week winner for the Thanksgiving games is Barnegat senior Hunter Mauro, who returned from an injury with 238 all-purpose yards to help the Bengals rally for a 29-28 Shore Conference Class B South victory over Pinelands on the eve of Thanksgiving.

Mauro has missed the previous five games with a broken bone in his hand but was able to return for the final game of the season and of his career, and he made the most of the opportunity. An 82-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was the highlight of a superb all-around game where he rushed for 55 yards on 9 carries, caught 3 passes for 73 yards and also completed a 19-yard pass. Barnegat fell behind early and trailed 28-6 before rattling off 23 unanswered points for the win to finish the season 5-5.

Mauro secured 63.24 percent of the vote to win over Wall running back Sean Larkin and Middletown North quarterback Donald Glenn.
