Group Semifinals

Group II

Delran 4, Holmdel 2

Senior Drew Roskos authored another dominant scoring performance in a group semifinal, this time scoring three goals in the first half to help the Bears beat the Hornets and reach the Group II championship game for the third straight season.

In the last three seasons, Roskos has scored a combined eight goals in the Group II semifinal round -- all against Shore Conference teams. He recorded a hat trick in a 6-2 win at Rumson-Fair Haven in 2021, scored twice in last year's win over Holmdel and delivered a first-half hat trick on Wednesday.

The game started off on the right foot for Holmdel Wednesday, which was on the left foot of Stepan Kapranov. The junior drilled a left-footed volley in the 13th minute for the game's first goal.

The Bears responded 1:23 later when Roskos chested down a loose ball and knocked in the equalizer. In the 23rd minute, Roskos volleyed in a loose ball off a throw-in for a go-ahead goal.

Roskos struck for his third goal in the 35th minute, which he headed in off a corner-kick service by Willyam Veiga.

Vinny Corollo extended Delran's lead to 4-1 in the 43rd minute and Delran held on despite a second goal from Kapranov. In the 65th minute, Kapranov bent free kick into the upper left corner of the goal.

Delran will play for its third straight Group II championship Saturday against Ramsey, the team the Bears beat in each of the last two championship games.

Group I

Shore 2, Palmyra 0

Sophomores Cooper Attaway and Santino Scarponi accounted for both Shore goals and the Blue Devils put away the Panthers to reach the Group I championship game for the first time since 1970.

Attaway opened up the scoring in the 62nd minute when he took a pass from junior Riley Murphy up the right flank, carried the ball toward the end-line and ripped a cross off the leg of a Palmyra defender and inside the near right post for the opening goal.

Scarponi put the game away in the 74th, when he buried a 28-yard direct kick into the upper left corner of the goal.

Senior goalkeeper Kevin Barfield saved five shots to earn the clean sheet, highlighted by a lunging save to his right on a shot ticketed for the upper left corner of the goal. He then stopped a shot that came his way 30 seconds later to end the threat.

Shore advances to the Group I championship Saturday at Franklin High School, when the Blue Devils will take on David Brearley at 12:30 p.m.
