Sectional Finals

South Jersey Non-Public A

(1) CBA 1, (3) Pingry 0

Senior Lawrence Mancino headed in a free kick by classmate John Gambale in the sixth minute of overtime and the Colts fought past the Big Blue to win their third straight official sectional championship and advance to Friday's Non-Public A championship game against Seton Hall Prep.

After an early flurry from CBA, Pingry controlled possession and play while creating the more dangerous chances from minutes 15 through 75. That included a quick-reflex save by CBA goalkeeper Miles Gallagher on a header by Pingry leading scorer Anthony Bugliari off a corner kick in the 62nd minute.

CBA finally began generating chances again in the 76th minute and 10 minutes after the attack awoke from its lengthy malaise, the Colts got their goal.

Senior defender Dan Dinnell drew a foul along the right flank near the corner, which set Gambale up to take a free-kick service. Gambale drove a low ball that cleared the line of players even with the near post and made it to the opposite side of the goal. Mancino elevated over a defender and slammed a header back into the right corner of the goal with 4:30 showing on the clock during the first overtime period.

CBA's showdown with Seton Hall Prep will be the third straight Non-Public A final played between the two programs and will also represent a rubber match. Seton Hall Prep won the 2021 championship before CBA avenged that loss with last year's 1-0 victory.
