Sectional Semifinals

South Jersey Non-Public A

(1) CBA 0, (4) St. Augustine - CBA advances on penalties, 4-2

Senior goalkeeper Miles Gallagher turned in a clean sheet over 100 minutes, then saved two penalty kicks during the shootout to propel the Colts past the Hermits and into the sectional final round for the 10th straight season.

Gallagher made a sprawling save in the 75th minute on a one-on-one attempt for St. Augustine -- one of his five saves in the match. His counterpart, Mason Taylor, made eight saves, including a leaping parry to keep a header from Christian DeOliveira out of the upper 90 midway through the first overtime period.

St. Augustine also hit the crossbar in the first 10 minutes of the second half and nearly won the game with one second left on the clock in the second overtime, when Alex Clark headed the ball a foot wide of the left post off a throw-in in the final seconds.

CBA's best overtime chance was a rip by junior Phil Bodenski that deflected off the heel of a defender and glanced off the left post early in the first overtime. Taylor also saved a close-range, near-post attempt by CBA leading scorer Dylan Millevoi early in the second overtime.

Gallagher set the tone in the shootout by saving a firm strike by Clark with a diving stop to his right. The senior goalkeeper also saved St. Augustine's third attempt with a dive to his left and CBA's four shooters all converted.

Millevoi, senior John Gambale and senior Lawrence Mancino all hit the mark on their kicks and DeOliveira put the game away on CBA's fourth and final kick. Had CBA needed the fifth kick, Gallagher was due to take it.

CBA will host the winner of Friday night's game between No. 2 St. Peter's Prep and No. 3 Pingry on Tuesday in the sectional final.

(3) St. Rose 4, (10) Princeton Day 0

Matt Alexis scored off a corner kick by Diego Nieves in the eighth minute, then the two seniors scored 30 seconds apart late in the first half to spark a Purple Roses win over the Panthers.

Protecting a 1-0 lead, Alexis scored his second goal of the match in the 35th minute, this time with an assist from senior Carlos Ramos. Thirty seconds later, Nieves tacked on St. Rose's third goal to sent the Purple Roses to halftime with a commanding lead.

Senior Jack Tiernan tacked on one more goal for St. Rose in the 63rd minute off an assist from classmate Isaiah Taylor.

St. Rose advances to its second straight sectional final and will travel to play top-seeded Moorestown Friends in Tuesday's championship game.
