Mystic Island Post 493 Advances to Ocean County American Legion Championship Game
Mystic Island Post 493, which is comprised of players from Pinelands, has advanced to the Ocean County American Legion championship game on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m. at Toms River East.

Jared Miller threw 6 1/3 shutout innings of six-hit ball, striking out five, and Joey Ventresca came on in relief and struck out the final two batters to sent Mystic Island into the championship game.
RBI singles by Ryan Ross and Tom Allen gave Mystic Island all the runs they would need. Even if Mystic Island loses on Thursday, it will have another crack at the title on Friday because it has not lost yet in the double-elimination tournament.
Point Pleasant Boro (4) - Toms River South Post 129 (1)
Point Boro junior pitcher Tim Rossi spun a four-hitter with eight strikeouts to keep the Panthers' title hopes alive with a win over Toms River South, which has been eliminated.
After falling behind 1-0, Point Boro scored three runs in the bottom of the fifth with two outs. Junior Bill Freehan doubled, and sophomore Damon Del Priore ripped a single down the line that scored Freehan to tie the game. Junior Sebastian Severio then singled, and Mark Leyble walked to load the bases. Sophomore Thomas Paul then hit a two-run single up the middle for a 3-1 lead.
The Panthers added another run in the sixth on an RBI sacrifice fly by Freehan that plated Ryan Carne, who had had doubled. Point Boro will face Lacey on Wednesday night in an elimination game in the loser's bracket.
Lacey (3) - Donovan Catholic (0)
John Troise was outstanding in tossing a complete-game, one-hit shutout on just 61 pitches to lead the Lions past the Griffins and set up a meeting with Point Boro on Wednesday night.
Anthony Elefante had an RBI double in the first inning for the only run Lacey would need.
