For the second time in the past three years, the Shore Conference has had a parochial school amend its name, as Monsignor Donovan announced Tuesday that it will now be known as Donovan Catholic.

Dr. Edward Gere, the principal of the Toms River school, wrote in a letter on Tuesday that the name change is "clearer, more succinct and more accurately reflective of the norms of today's Church."

The change follows Mater Dei amending its name to Mater Dei Prep two years ago to reflect changes in its college preparatory curriculum. Monsignor Donovan was originally known as St. Joseph when it opened in 1962 and changed its name to Monsignor Donovan in 1983.
