BRONX, N.Y. – Collin Stewart’s (Glenville, N.Y./Mekeel Christian Academy) three-pointer at the end of regulation sent the game to overtime, but Fordham used a 14-1 run after falling behind 57-54 in the extra session to pull away for a 68-58 victory over Monmouth in non-conference action in Rose Hill Gym on Wednesday night.

The Rams, who went 9-for-11 from the free throw line in the overtime period, tied the game at 57-57 with 2:41 remaining on Eric Paschell’s three-pointer and outscored Monmouth 11-1 over the final 1:21 to secure the win.

Monmouth trailed 50-41 with 3:59 remaining in regulation and used an 8-0 run to pull within 50-49 with 44.5 ticks showing on a Brice Kofane (Yaounde, Cameroon/Miller School/Providence) 10-foot jumper off a feed from Andrew Nicholas (Wrightsville, Pa./Eastern York). A pair of Ram free throws gave Fordham a 52-49 advantage with 3.6 seconds left, before Stewart’s career-high third three-pointer sent the contest to overtime.

Fordham used an 11-0 run over 3:21 of play to take an early 11-2 advantage, before two Kofane free throws got the Hawks within 20-15 with 8:39 left in the stanza. The Rams pushed their advantage to 11 just before the half, but two Chris Brady (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) free throws put the score at 31-22 at the break.

Justin Robinson’s (Lake Katrine, N.Y./Kingston) wing three-pointer pulled the Hawks within 34-29 at 17:54, but the Rams answered with a 7-0 run to claim a 41-29 edge with 11:52 left. Consecutive treys from Nicholas and Stewart ignited a 9-0 Monmouth streak, which pulled the Hawks within 41-38 with 7:04 showing.

The Rams scored nine of the game’s next 12 to hold the 50-41 cushion with 3:59 left on Paschell’s tip-in.

Monmouth, which hit 2-of-9 from the field in the extra session, hit 36.0% (18-50) overall from the floor, while the Rams connected on 44.2% (23-52).

Deon Jones (Wilmington, Del./Sanford School) led the Hawks with 16 points and six rebounds, while Stewart added nine points. Max DiLeo (Cinnaminson, N.J./Cinnaminson) and Josh James (Greenburgh, N.Y./Archbishop Stepinac) chipped in seven points each, while Robinson notched five points, six rebounds, four assists and a pair of steals. Kofane added seven rebounds and four blocks.

Monmouth (4-5) returns to action on Saturday, December 20 when the Hawks travel to Wagner College for a 4:00 p.m. game at the Spiro Center.
