Considering the program has sent several players to the NFL it’s a bold statement to say that Mike Basile just might be the greatest player in Monmouth University football history. However, the senior safety has done nothing but earn honors and set records since he burst onto the scene in West Long Branch as a freshman out of Brick Memorial High School. The latest achievement came last Saturday in a 35-13 win over Bucknell when Basile set a new record for career tackles by a Hawk when he passed Aaron Edwards (Class of 2002) mark of 353.

A three-time All-Big South performer, 2nd team All-American (2016), preseason All-American (2017) and candidate for the Buck Buchanan Award, Basile has started all 38 games in his Hawks career.

Monmouth and Shore Sports Network play-by-play announcer Matt Harmon caught up with Basile this week.
