Every week this regular season, Shore Conference football fans will have their chance to vote for the Lezgus Plumbing/Shore Sports Network Football Player of the Week on our website, with tens of thousands of votes cast this week and over 100,00 votes cast this season.

The Week Nine recipient is Point Beach senior defensive end Tanner Smith, who made several key plays in the Garnet Gulls 14-13 victory over Mater Dei Prep. Smith made 12 tackles, recorded a sack and blocked a punt that led to a touchdown. Along with teammate Cade Watkins, Smith also made a huge stop on fourth down late in the game to complete a goal line stand for Point Beach to secure the victory. The Garnet Gulls (5-4) secured the No. 6 seed for the NJSIAA Central Jersey Group I playoffs and will open on the road against third-seeded Palmyra (7-1) on Friday night.

Smith is the third Point Beach player to be voted Player of the Week this season, and the Garnet Gulls' fans once again made their presence felt to help Smith secure a whopping 54 percent of the vote. Monmouth junior Casey Pachucki finished a distant second with just under 10 percent of the vote after running for 226 yards and 3 touchdowns in a 30-21 win over Raritan.
