The 17th annual Shoot for the Stars ice hockey all-star game pitting the top players from Monmouth County against their counterparts on Ocean County is coming on Sunday at 5 p.m. at the Red Bank Armory.

Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door. The game is run by Jim Dowd, the Brick legend who played 10 years in the NHL, which included winning a Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 1995. Dowd now lives in Point Pleasant and is the new coach of the cooperative Manasquan/Point Beach ice hockey program.

Proceeds from the event go to benefit Hometown Heroes, a Toms River-based non-profit that provides assistance to families or individuals in need. The organization has helped more than 2,500 families recover from the devastation of Hurricane Sandy in the form of professional assistance, advocacy, and monetary aid totaling over $2 million.

Monmouth County won last year's game, 9-7, behind MVPs Brendan van Riemsdyk and Tom Panico. Monmouth leads the all-time series, 11-5.
