Jackson Memorial Visits Southern In Tonight's Jersey Mike's Game

The Shore Conference football realignment has resulted in many changes but Southern Regional and Jackson Memorial remain division rivals and will meet in tonight’s Jersey Mikes Game of the Week powered by Toyota World of Lakewood. The game will be broadcast on 92.7 WOBM with a live video stream on shoresportsnetwork.com.

The Rams and Jaguars met annually as part of the all-Ocean County Class “A South” division for many years and are now part of the newly created Constitution Division along with Lakewood, Marlboro, Lacey and Wall. Jackson won last year’s meeting 10-8 on their way to a 6-5 record….Southern finished 3-7.

Don’t be surprised if we get a repeat of that low scoring game from a year ago as the Jaguars return the top four tacklers from a unit which gave up just 14 points per game and pitched a pair of shutouts. Leading the way are safety John Ghigna (also the starting quarterback) and defensive end Collin McCarthy. The offense will be led by tailback Leo Shimonovich, who ran for over 800 yards in 2017.

Southern suffered through an injury-played season last year and it forced them to make numerous changes but it also allowed many players to get experience. Among those who return and will be counted on are Luke Galan and Joe Guglieimo who will start at both running back and linebacker and two-way starting lineman Liam Anderson.

Kickoff from Ron Emmert Field at Goldberger Stadium is 7 p.m. and the game can be heard live on 92.7 WOBM while a live video stream on shoresportsnetwork.com.
