Some random thoughts on a Tuesday and remember the promise you made this winter about not complaining when it got hot.

I saw a post on Facebook that exactly five months ago yesterday it was 2 degrees at 7:40 in the morning. We’ve only had a few 90+ degree days and I’ll take them over bitter cold, snow and ice any day.

Speaking of Facebook.  Thanks to all the nice comments over yesterday’s Hometown View in which I talked about my 36 year anniversary at WOBM. I was brave enough to post some pictures of me in those early years when I sported a mustache and drew comparisons with Tony Orlando, Tom Selleck and assorted porn stars.  I’ll just leave it at that.

Ocean County has quite a history when it comes to Little League baseball, especially in Toms River which has had a few teams make deep runs into the state and regional tournaments and even the Little League World Series.  We only have to look at last summer when the Toms River Little League All-Stars won the state championship which was held in Berkeley Township.  That team’s toughest competition came in the District 18 Tournament where they had to battle past Jackson.

A year later Jackson got its revenge in the districts and now they have advanced to the finals of the Section 3 Tournament following Monday’s 6-2 win over Lincroft at the Manchester Little League complex.  Sean Slusak & Matt Potok handled the pitching and Ryan Lasko and Tommy Cartnick took care of the hitting as Jackson rolls into Thursdays final against Lincroft, Clark or Nottingham who will battle it out in the loser’s bracket.  Jackson is in the driver’s seat to be one of the four teams to advance to the state championships in Hammonton later this month.

Todd Frazier followers can breathe a sigh of relief as the Home Run Derby jinx is hopefully over.  Frazier was 0 for his first 10 following the All-Star break and his batting average had dropped to .276, the lowest it had been since early June.  Monday night he broke out with a home run, single, walk and two runs scored in a 5-4 Reds victory over the Cubs.
