Holmdel is in mourning today following the sudden death of junior Jack Dowd.

Dowd, a who played long-stick midfielder for the Hornets as a sophomore last season, died suddenly over the weekend. Holmdel Superintendent Robert McGarry disclosed Dowd's passing in a letter Sunday night at the Dowd family's request, according to a report by News 12.

Dowd's father, Sean, is an English teacher at Holmdel High School. No additional details were released regarding Dowd's death. The family has asked for privacy in the wake of this tragedy.

Grief counselors will be at Holmdel High School on Monday.
