The Monmouth University men’s basketball team returns to the court tonight, and for the first time at home this season, when it hosts Penn at 7pm at The MAC.

The young Hawks defeated Hofstra in their season-opener, 88-84, with five players scoring in double figures, led by 22 points from Deon Jones in his first game in a MU uniform. The true freshmen backcourt of Justin Robinson and Josh James, who was honored as the MAAC Rookie of the Week his efforts, combined for 30 points, 11 assists, five rebounds and two steals with only one turnover between them, very impressive for a pair of players making their collegiate debuts against a CAA team on the road.

Tonight, the Hawks host the Ivy League’s Penn, which was picked second in the league’s preseason poll. The Quakers took Temple down to the wire in their first game, and feature Tony Hicks, a high-scoring sophomore guard. Hicks is the first Parade All-American in Penn men’s basketball history, which dates back to 1897.

Tonight’s game should be a good one, this young Monmouth team is going to be fun to cover and watch develop as the season goes on.
