No. 3 CBA 17, Middletown South 1

Nick Casner had five goals and four assists and Mike Carroll scored four times to lead the Colts (2-0, 1-0) past the Eagles (0-2, 0-1) in the divisional opener for both teams. Matthew Marra and Shay Walczak each added a pair of goals and Evan Bynoe needed to make just two saves to earn the win.

Pat Walsh scored the only goal for Middletown South.

 

No. 5 Freehold Township 16, Middletown North 3

Chris Novella scored his first varsity goal as the Patriots (2-1, 1-0) overpowered the Lions (2-1, 0-1) in both teams divisional opener.

 

Class A South

Jackson Memorial 9, Brick Memorial 8

Senior attackman Troy Wolf scored a game-high four goals, including the game-winning goal in the fourth quarter as the Jaguars (1-0, 1-0) opened their season with a come-from-behind road victory over the Mustangs (1-1, 0-1).

Brick Memorial, which led 8-6 after three quarters, received two goals each from Dylan Visser, Chris Harvey and Mike Mowder and 15 saves from Chris Sayers, Mowder's goals were the first of his varsity career.

 

Nondivisional

No. 6 Howell 11, Jackson Liberty 4

Jake Sherman scored five goals and Marc Buannic sank three goals while setting up four other strikes as the Rebels moved to 3-0 with a win over the Lions (1-1). Zack Ornstein scored twice and Ian Colmorgan stopped 16 shots for Howell.

Christopher Mulholland made 12 saves for Jackson Liberty.

 

Long Branch at Neptune, 3:45 p.m.

 

Nonconference

Bridgewater-Raritan 12, No. 2 Rumson-Fair Haven 2

Bryan Hess and Griffin Schultz scored and Kyle Knapp made five saves for the Bulldogs, who dropped to 0-3 with a nonconference road loss to the Panthers. Griffin Figel scored four times and Ethan Christensen added three goals for Bridgewater.

 

Somerville 5, No. 4 St. John Vianney 4

Joey Toth's fourth-quarter goal lifted the Pioneers (1-2) past the Lancers (1-2) in a nonconference game in Holmdel.

Matt Adelfio had two goals and one assist for St. John Vianney, while Andrew Poretta and Tom Hanson also tallied. Kyle Boyle led the Lancers with six ground balls and D.J. Soriano made 15 saves.
