No. 1 Southern 16, No. 2 Rumson-Fair Haven 14

Senior Chris Smith scored the game-winning goal with 1:43 left in the game to cap a furious fourth-quarter rally as the Rams (4-0) edged the Bulldogs (0-4) in an instant classic on Saturday afternoon in Rumson.

Southern was down 14-11 after Rumson's Robbie Garavente scored his sixth goal of the game with 5:42 left in regulation. The Rams got a goal from Dylan Jinks at 4:17, then another from Kyle Mulrane 12 seconds later to pull to within one. Jinks tied the score at 14 with 2:35 left, and Smith netted the go-ahead strike off a ground ball with 1:43 left. Jinks added an insurance goal with 1:07 left to give Southern the huge win.

Smith was outstanding with three goals, two assists and 21 ground balls while also going 19-for-21 on face-offs. Jinks has a team-high six goals while Nick Simonelli, Kyle Mulrane and Will Johnson each scored twice and Shawn McManus had a goal and three assists. Brendan Lefanto made nine saves in goal.

Garavente had six goals for the Bulldogs, including all five of their goals in the second half. Griffin Schultz added three goals and Bryan Hess sank a pair of goals.

 

Lacey 8, Shore Regional 7

Ryan Mahon had three goals and one assist and Connor Wilson also scored three times to lead the Lions (3-1) past the Blue Devils (2-2) in West Long Branch. Kiernan Quinn added a goal and two assists, Casey Sirotniak scored a goal and Mike Trezza made nine saves.

Jack Britton had two goals and two assists and Doug Goldsmith had two goals and one assists for Shore. Hunter Avallone made nine saves.

 

Wall 15, Brick Memorial 0

Mike Steppe, Mike McIntyre and Thomas Jenkins each registered hat tricks and Dylan Bosco scored twice in the Crimson Knights' (2-0) blowout win over the Mustangs (1-2). Zach Harrell needed to make just five saves to record the shutout.

 

Ocean 17, Middletown South 4

Zack Karasic scored a game-high six goals, while Erik Rant had four goals and two assists and Joey Appio had two goals and six assists to lead the Spartans (2-0) past the Eagles (1-4). Christian Goslin added three goals and three assists, Sam Hanna had a goal and three assists and Conor Daly assisted on three goals. Stephen Graziano picked up a game-high 10 ground balls and David Walk made 11 saves.

 

Nonconference

Middletown North 10, East Brunswick 6

Justin Russo scored three times and added two assists and Chris Fisher, Bryan Flannigan and Connor Hedlund each scored twice to lead the Lions (3-2) past the Bears (0-4). Kevin Powers made 14 saves in goal to earn the win.

 

Old Bridge 4, St. John Vianney 2

Tom Hanson and Richie Mullarkey each scored and D.J. Soriano made 11 saves as the Lancers (2-2) fell to the Knights (4-1) in a defensive battle in Holmdel.
