MIDDLETOWN - Sophomore Emma Ryan scored two goals and the Toms River East girls soccer team held on to beat Middletown South, 2-1, and pick up a Shore Conference Tournament round-of-16 road win.

The ninth-seeded Raiders will travel to play top-seeded and undefeated Freehold Township in the quarterfinals on Saturday.

Ryan scored the first goal of the game on a pass from Kamryn Lister in the 28th minute and tacked on her second goal on an assist from Jillian Conklin to extend the Toms River East (9-3) lead to 2-0 in the 68th.

No. 8 Middletown South (10-4-4) drew to within a goal in the 75th, when Grace Massell knocked in a shot after an initial shot by Emma Laudisi was saved by Raiders goalkeeper Jacqueline Keough.
