Girls Basketball – Manasquan and Holmdel Fall at Coaches Choice Showcase
Holmdel, NJ- Emotions and anticipation started out high for both Manasquan and Holmdel girls basketball programs, but both ended in disappointing defeats. The Warriors ranked 5th in the latest NJ.com Top 20 poll lost to Long Island Lutheran (NY) by a score of 70-55. Holmdel who faced Archbishop Molloy in the nightcap, lost 63-39.
Manasquan who came into this contest looking to right the ship after a rough seven game span where they have gone 4-3 were hoping for this to be a platform to build off of before facing St. John Vianney on Tuesday. The Warriors struggled to find any consistent offense due to the height of the Crusaders and struggled even more on the boards losing in that category as well 26-10. There is and never was any quit in this group as the Warriors got to within 2 in the send quarter when Addie Masonius hit a 10-foot jumper for 2 of her 16 points. Dara Mabrey and Stella Clark added 12 and 10 points respectively while Faith Masonius finished with 13 points.

Holmdel entered the game against Archbishop Molloy, enter the game on an up-and-down season and were hoping to end a 2-game losing streak for the third time this season. After falling to St. John Vianney and Freehold Township already this week, the Hornets came out on fire against Molloy. The Hornets behind 6 first quarter points from senior Jen Inman lead Archbishop 14-9 at the end of the first quarter. Holmdel looked like a team on its way to pulling the upset but Molloy quickly ended that bid and outscored the Hornets 54-24 the rest of the game. Inman finished with 16 points and junior Sydney Coffaro chipped in with 10 points.
