In addition to the reader-selected Orthopaedic Institute of Central Jersey Football Player of the Week, we will also be selecting Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week for each of the Shore Conference’s six divisions. We’ll also choose an overall Shore Conference Special Teams Player of the Week to highlight any standout kicking performances or players that got it done in the return game.

Below we’ll focus on the best performances from Week 9.

SSN SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Jake Hurler, Jr., K, Freehold

Hurler kicked field goals of 34 and 22 yards and was 3-for-3 on extra points to help the Colonials to a 27-20 win over Long Branch.

SSN DIVISIONAL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

CLASS A NORTH

Offense

Joey Mauriello, Sr., RB, Colts Neck

This award could go to either Manalapan’s Naim Mayfield, Freehold’s Ashante Worthy or Howell’s Eddie Morales every week, and while all three had big games in Week 9 we figured we’d spread the wealth this week. Mauriello ran for 175 yards and three touchdowns on 18 carries to steer the Cougars to a 42-28 win over Neptune.

Defense

Yahson Calhoun, Sr., LB, Freehold

Calhoun was all over the field in the Colonials’ 27-20 win over Long Branch with seven tackles, three tackles for a loss, two sacks and a fumble recovery.

CLASS A CENTRAL

Offense

Cameron LaMountain, So., RB, Holmdel

LaMountain has been a big part of Holmdel’s success this season and ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns on 13 carries in a 28-0 win over Matawan. Holmdel is the No. 6 seed in the Central Jersey Group II playoffs, qualifying for the postseason for the first time since 2007.

Rumson’s quartet of Christian Lanzalotto, Keegan Woods, Henry Sullivan and Gordon Forsyth

All four had big games on defense in Rumson’s 42-21 win over Carteret to lock up the No. 1 seed in the Central Jersey Group III playoffs. Woods made 11 tackles with one sack, Forsyth had 10 tackles and a sack, Sullivan recorded nine tackles with one sack and Lanzalotto made a team-high 12 tackles.

CLASS A SOUTH

Pelino was a force in a 27-14 win over Toms River North with eight tackles and four sacks. Pelino has come on very strong with a whopping eight sacks in his last two games.

CLASS B NORTH

Offense

Steve Lubischer, Jr., QB, Red Bank Catholic

Lubischer completed 9 of 11 passes for 220 yards and two touchdowns and also ran for two scores, including a 30-yard score, to lead the Caseys to a 41-19 victory over Manasquan that clinched the Class B North division title.

Defense

D’Anton had a 14-yard fumble return for a touchdown after he stripped Red Bank Catholic’s running back of the ball and also had a tackle for a loss.

CLASS B CENTRAL

Jack McCrae, Jr., RB, Shore

In a must-win game to get the Blue Devils into the playoffs, McCrae ran for 164 yards and two touchdowns on 19 carries as Shore beat Keyport, 28-14, to secure a spot in the Central Jersey Group I playoffs.

Defense

Donte Abrams, Sr., DB, Asbury Park

Abrams had a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown, tied for the longest scoring play in the Shore Conference this season, to clinch a 26-12 victory over Keansburg that secured a playoff spot for the defending Central Jersey Group I champions.

CLASS B SOUTH

Defense

Josh Lezin, Sr., DL, Lakewood

One of the Shore’s premier defenders was unstoppable in Lakewood’s 37-7 win over Pinelands to lock up a playoff spot. Lezin had 13 tackles, multiple hits behind the line of scrimmage, three sacks and a two-point conversion catch.
