Make no mistake about it Jackson Memorial is the team to beat in the boys division of the 30th annual WOBM Christmas Classic and that was affirmed last night when the Jaguars were the near unanimous pick as the top seed by the 16 head coaches.

Jackson will be led by 6’8 University of Delaware-bound center Eric Carter and a host of highly-regarded transfers and newcomers that has coach Joe Fagan excited about the prospects for the season.    Wall, Toms River South and Red Bank Catholic make up the remainder of the top four seeds as a result of last night’s meeting and dinner at The Villa, which is the banquet facility in the parking lot of The Office Restaurant and Lounge in Toms River.

Jackson will begin its quest for a third WOBM Classic title in five years when they face Brick on Saturday, December 21st at 6:45 in the final game of the opening day of basketball action at the Pine Belt Arena.  Second-seeded Wall, coming off a 17 win season will meet Toms River East, #3 Toms River South will take on Barnegat and 4th seeded RBC will oppose Lacey on the opening day of the 7-day, 52-game basketball tournament.

Other boys first round matchups will pit #5 Freehold Township against Central, sixth-seeded Brick Memorial will face Monsignor Donovan, 7th ranked Manchester takes on defending champion Toms River North and 8th seed St. Rose opposes Point Boro.

The seeding for the Girl’s division was a bit closer at the top with newcomer Red Bank Catholic earning the top seed over Manasquan, who finished 3rd in the OBM Classic last December.  The Caseys of Coach Joe Montano will be led by Grace Fallon, a first-team All Shore player last winter for the reigning Shore Conference champions.

RBC will make their tournament debut on Sunday, December 22nd against Barnegat while the 2nd seeded Squan Warriors go up against Ocean.  #3 Wall opens with Jackson Liberty and 4th seeded Freehold Township meets Manchester.  Other girls openers have fifth seed Monsignor Donovan playing Brick Memorial, #6 Jackson Memorial meeting Toms River North, 7th seed Shore playing Toms River East and 8th seed and defending champion Point Boro going up against Toms River South.
